McNabb says...

<< < (2/5) > >>

ChadTower:

No, Philly is way harsh compared to other cities.  They'll physically abuse their athletes, nevermind booing them.  Hell they booed McNabb out of the building the day he was drafted.

I'm sure that had nothing to do with the fact that he runs like a hippo.  I guess Garrard is a little blacker than he is.

If he was white, the commentators would label him as a good pocket passer. Since he is black, they say "well, it would be nice if he was a bit more mobile."

Before the Vick era, noone gave a crap how fast a QB ran the 40, as long as they could scramble a bit, read a defense, and be accurate. Nowadays, every black QB is expected to be just like Vick. That works in College ball, but does not translate well to the NFL.

Personally, I don't know why McNabb is bitching. It's probably more along the lines that he is afraid the "New Guy" is going to dethrone him.

I think that is the case, but only because it's true. Black athletes do tend to run faster than white ones.

Except that he is not a good pocket passer.  He has a cannon but his accuracy has always been questionable and his delivery point is a foot too low.  He runs like Drew Bledsoe so saying "he needs to be more mobile" is fair.

Someone better tell Steve McNair or Randall Cunningham they were doing the wrong thing at the wrong time.  Or maybe Garrard needs to run more seeing as how he is only slightly more mobile than Leftwich.

You have to remember that 15 years ago the white guys who ran a lot "ran too much" too.  Every week the "experts" would say Steve Grogan's biggest problem was that he wasn't enough of a pocket passer, despite the fact that he was one of the NFL's best ever running QBs and held the NFL record for rushing TDs by a QB.  Same with Tarkenton and many other white guys...

McNabb is bitching mostly because he bitches.  To be fair to him, he is playing in a very unappreciative city that was against him from day 1 (because he wasn't Ricky Williams... ironic).  It was pretty cold when the freakin' NAACP started making public statements about his not being "black enough".  Dude has had it from all sides for different things his whole NFL career and now he has no idea what he is supposed to be and to whom.

tommy:
I don't think him playing in Philly and saying that they are harder on players than any other city and that he was not wanted from day one is reason enough to come out of left field with what he said.

Do you think people who grew up in a tough neighborhood and had no money have the right to run around robbing and killing people just because they had it hard? This is a little extreme but i think they both do not work as an argument.

If we all can agree that IF he was playing well that this would have never be said and that fans would then love him, then his comments are a total sell out.
