i have never heard about leaving the chips on  ;D

i never clean a pcb with water  :P here a link of Nuno explaining how he did it ...

I can confirm that Darth Nuno's Space Invaders II is still working fine.....I'm not sure if the Xevious still has the original PCB or was mamed though....

Atari also suggests the wet method in "The Book" (http://arcarc.xmission.com/PDF_Arcade_Atari_Kee/Atari_TM-129_The_Book.pdf), see attached clip.

Even so, I've never used it. As Atari suggests, this is only needed if the PCB is REALLY very dirty, f.i. when it's covered with rests of drinks etc. If it's just dust (which it is most of the times), I only do the "canned air" trick.
