The other side of this movies story is readable on Twin Galaxies web site... The first board Wiebe used wasn't a standalone DK board, and there was some question to the speed it ran. It gets deep, and that fact only scratches the surface.

As far as Billy Mitchell goes, he kind of has a cocky sense of humor to him. You either get it or you don't, and though I haven't seen the movie yet, it sounds like maybe he was selectively edited so the attitude comes through, but not the humor. The dude is involved with Twin Galaxies now only because he has been FOREVER. He holds records in other games besides DK. He also went through all of the proof steps Steve Wiebe would be required to go through when he regained the record a couple of weeks back. Word is that he made it to the kill screen and actually ended his game without using all his men to jump barrels until the timer ran out. This left a bit more of a margin for the record to be challenged yet again. I think that was kind of a cool move.

I can't wait to see King Of Kong. Thought it had national release this weekend but looks like it was only in 4 cities.

I'm sure they did make him out to be a little more villian-like but a lot of the shots are just letting the camera roll on him and watching him hang himself with his words and actions.  No edits.  You'll see :)

I noticed over at twingalaxies, they list a separate DK record that is more of an "acknowledgement". It is of Steve Weibe's Double DK boardset record. Is this the hallowed conflicted record? If so, then I could understand the record being contested - a double dk board is still the same roms and such, but it's not exactly a stock dk board now is it?

Yes... He got the score using the DK/Jr board. The record was further called into question because of glitches on the tape he submitted.
Controversy has subsided a bit now that Mitchell regained the record and Weibe has also set very high scores on other DK machines, proving he's the real deal.

This has made me think... If I set out for a Juno First record, and my board has a high-score mod on it, will they disqualify it?

I don't think there's a problem with Mitchell being a judge, EXCEPT he should definitely be exempt from judging ANY score for which he holds the title.
