I'm also trying to think of a good way to hide/disguise the garage door rails/overhead mounts.

I've pondered this a bit myself for my garage. The way your tracks hang down so far, you could almost box in underneath the tracks, then put storage compartments over top of where the garage door would go. That would be a really neat looking project me thinks. You'd lose ALOT of headroom though at the front. I don't have that problem as my tracks are against the ceiling - you know, like the person who built your place should have done. :P ;D

Yeah, they should have.  :)

I thought about the storage thing too.  The thing I can't get my head around is how to make it useful for storage without it LOOKING like storage, you know?

If you didn't want to loose the headspace you could have that track relocated up to a few inches from the ceiling.  It wouldn't require much, I'd do it myself, but if you're not into too much of that sort of work I can't imagine it would cost more than a few hundred bucks to have somebody do it for you.
