Timewarp Mame Cab

This is a simple project using an empty Bubbles cabinet that was being trashed. I designed it mostly for one player.

I love it except for the exposed trackball plate - it would look so much better recessed in the CP, IMO.  Nice job though!

Nice one

But I'll have to agree with javeryh. Hiding the trackball plate would really make it great..

More builds? Maybe in the future?

Thanks guys  :D

Yah, actually I didn't have much room to work with to hide the plate, that cp is very tight, which is why I only have the 2.25 trackball, and even that was a squeeze. It actually doesn't look too bad in real life, and it's also why I decided to put it in the center, looks more on purpose. I liked making the buttons in the diamond formation, perfect Vanguard! I don't play street fighter games much, so I didn't need the standard layout. I picked the graphics off of the Mame Marquees site, I can't do better myself, plus I really liked the design.

Is that a metal control panel? If so, flush mounting the trackball would have been easy - you wouldn't even need the mounting plate.

It's made of 3/4" wood. And it has some reinforcing joints where the sides come together, making the space underneath narrower depthwise.

Ah, pinball buttons.  What pinball games are you going to play on it?  Looks clean.

The Pro Pinball series by Interplay is by far the best pinball sim out there.  The physics engine is spot on.  They are available all the time on Ebay for around 5 to 10 bucks.  If you are patient, wait for an auction that includes the entire series, instead of only one game.  You can also find "no-cd" versions of the executables on the web.

I love the look of it (Yay! no huge control panel!) but doesn't that spinner get in the way?

Yeah, you bump it sometimes when you're working the 4-way, but it's not a big deal, doesn't bother me. I made an effort not to do a big panel, and to keep the classic lines. I can always build another one if I want more controls. I think I'd rather have multiple cabs to do different things, rather than one do-it-all cab anyway. Gives me more projects to do. These are fun to make!
