You are SO right Shardian....
You hit the nail on the head....
Currently I am investigating my options:
1) Use my attic:
Pro's:
- cheap
- relatively quick to get done
- no extra heating costs etc.
-Con's:
- can't get my cabs through the stairs.I can get them through the window in the roof and I would need to let a mobile crane come and lift them all in there. That leaves out both the cockpits though, these won't fit through the current room. I could replace this with a much larger one.
- not too much space, definitely no space for a workbench or something like that.
2) Build a concrete/brick shed in my garden
Pro's:
- Easy acces from ground level with cabs
- Very sturdy
- increases value of house
Con's:
-quite expensive compared to gained space, especialy since I will still need to use a part as my shed for storing garden stuff and bicycles etc. Will leave about 15m2 for game room
- No room for workbench
- will need some kind of heating
- requires piles which makes it pretty expensive
3) Build a wood shed in my garden
Pro's
- doesn't require piles
- relatively cheap
- quick to get done
Con's
- I'm really worried about moisture. Winters here are wet
- will need heating, isolation
- not very sturdy
- No room for workbench
- will need to use part of it as a shed
4) Install a pre-fab cellar in my garden
Pro's
- Lots and lots of space (about 45m2)
- Enough space for separate workplace
Con's:
- Expensive !
- will take long to get permissions etc.
- will need ventilation and heating
- need "cab entry" somehow (lift/talud ?)
- Most expansive
- it might even not be possible where I live
I in a part of Holland that is basically wet clay ground. If you want to build something heavy here, you need piles. Or your building will drown in the ground. On the other side, there's also a high level of water in the ground. That might push up a cellar because of the upwards pressure.
This is all the reason why homes rarely have basements over here.
I'm looking for all options, and have some requests for info running at the town government and 2 construction companies.
I'd LOVE to have that cellar.....but it's all a matter of money I guess...
