Band AND Solo success?

(1/7) > >>

Texasmame:
I went to a concert that featured The Stray Cats, The Pretenders and Don Henley.  They were all good but the Cats and Pretenders played a few things I didn't know.  Henley did not - I knew all 12 or so songs he played.

That got me thinking - which successful band has spawned the most successful solo artists?

The Beatles would likely take the cake here, so I'm not going to count them.

Genesis?  Phil and Peter - sure, good solo careers.  Mike and the Mechanics - that's pushing it.  Has Tony Banks even DONE any solo stuff?

The Police - well, Sting was huge by himself.  But Stewart did very little besides movie soundtrack stuff and Andy - who knows!

My vote is for The Eagles.  I'm not a big fan of them but Glen Frey, Joe Walsh AND Don Henley have all had some hits solo - some of them Top 10 big.

So, who gets your vote?

DaveMMR:
In regards to Police solos: you may want to pick up Klark Kent's (Stewart Copeland's alter-ego) CD "Kollected Works".  It contains the EPs he released during the early 80's and I happen to think his stuff is eccentric and fun.

As for bands that spawned the most successful solo artists: Does Wham! count?  Half the members had successful solo careers!   ;D

I love Stew.  I'll have to check that out.

Yeah, Wham! would qualify. . .

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young

IIRC Eric Clapton is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three times.
