RobotronNut:

interesting...

"Yes, it was shamelessly ripped from the UltraStick programming (I'm a big fan of the UltraStick myself), which was in turn ripped from a mapping concept from MAME Analog+  . . .  The 9x9 provides more flexibility and accuracy in the mapping. You can make your diagonals easier to hit or tweak it in other ways." [Aaron Giles]

RobotronNut:

there's been some discussion of this in a thread in the software forum.

it would appear that you can now leave your u360 in analog mode 100% of the time and have mame itself switch emulation among 4-way, 8-way, q-bert, etc.

Yes, this is such a great feature that can be used with any analog stick without any plugins or wrappers running.  Has anyone made a map for Tron yet (ie hard but not impossible to hit diagonals)?

Does MAME have 100% accuracy in selecting the correct map?  Does it have any mapping controls, say to override a 'default' map?  Unless both of these are true, I don't know if we can discard the u360's mapping completely.

I'm assuming you can make your own maps and choose them (or the defaults maps) manually.
