--- Quote from: CCM on July 25, 2007, 12:22:17 pm ---I've never read a Harry Potter book and I've only seen the first movie.  With all the buzz I may have to read the books.

I generally read fantasy adventure, RA Salvatore, Robert Jordan, David Eddings, Steven Erikson, etc...  How do the Potter books stack up to these authors?  I've always thought of Harry Potter as kid's books.

Salvatore was my favorite until I started reading Potter.  The first couple may be a bit kiddish but they get better.....much better.  You really have to read them to know all of the characters for later.

Just finished it myself (wife got to read it first, darnit!), and I have to say simply smashing. Frigging outstanding. One of the best and most satisfying ending to a series of any kind ever. I even liked the epilogue. Fracking brilliant I say. I'm very sad that I don't have any more of it to read now....

I haven't read it, but since everybody around me will I took the liberty of finding out what happens. Can someone explain something to me?

You have a snake. While that snake is safe you are immortal. You can make a shield around that snake that makes it almost impossible to kill. So, gee, maybe I'll just take the shield off my snake and travel to the one place on Earth full of kids too stupid not to know I'm unbeatable? WTF?!?

I was very reluctant to read the last book because of that.  There will never be more.
