Believe it or not they are RGB  :applaud: :o

You can hook a vga cable to it (hack) and use powerstrip to get the sync correct.

So, pretty easy.  Let me find an example link.

LINK: http://starfox.ucc.asn.au/carcomp/serio_lcd.htm
This is the PAL version but the NTSC version would be basically the same hack.  Also, now that I look back at it, am I seeing that right?  15 Hz?  Would a Jamma board connect directly to this thing??  :o :o Nevermind, I see the 25Hz refresh rate now...

 Property      Value      Property      Value
Pixel Clock    ~15mhz    Horizontal Back Porch    78 pixels
Composite Sync    Checked    Horizontal Total    936 pixels
Interlaced    Checked    Vertial refresh rate    ~25hz
Horizontal Sync    Positive    Active Vertical Lines    576 lines
Vertical Sync    Positive    Vertical Front Porch    42 lines
Horizontal Scan Rate    ~16khz    Vertical Sync Width    4 lines
Active Horizontal Pixels    720 pixels    Vertical Back Porch    22 Lines
Horizontal Front Porch    42 pixels    Total    644 lines
Horizontal Sync Width    96 pixels

Good stuff.  I don't know what any of it means but I guess I'll figure it out eventually (like this winter).  I bought a PSone screen for $25 and I'm going to try and make a mini-MAME out of it when the weather gets too cold to work out in the garage.  I also saw a pico-ITX board so I'm sure I can work out something cool...  Powering everything might be kind of tough...  I've got lots to think about!

I like the new Galaga artwork by the way... I'm really looking forward to the completed project...

Updated Pics.  Started with the inside vinyl, then attached and cleaned up the damage, Also went ahead and painted some parts black just in case it showed through the T-molding.  I didn't really need to vinyl the inside of the cabinet but it finishes it off.

The control panel will need to be thicker than I originally wanted it because of the joystick height.  Without the bottom mdf on it fits fine, but hits when it is attached.

Lots o' pics...

more pictorials...  BTW, none of the insides are attached yet, just test fitting.  Once I got the LCD taped in there I had to hook up the Capcom version and play some Commando and 1942.  Greatness!!!  :applaud: :applaud:

You are no longer allowed to steal my design if you're going to put that tiny little monitor in there.  :)

I'm only half-kidding.

It'll look better once the bezel artwork is on both sides of the monitor.

Okay here are some shots of the artwork installed.  I still have to do the Marquee but it has already been printed and I have it.  I still have some touching up to do.  I also have to install the spinner control for PP and add the other boards to the box.

The control panel is still my least favorite.  I didn't measure between the LOW/HIGH text before I had it printed... So I guess I'll just have to live with that.  I guess that is why companies create so many "prototypes" before they get it right...  :dunno

Got the Marquee Cut out and the Plexy cut for a test fit.  The flash washes out the marquee as it is backlight material.  It looks very nice here...

Also added a protective piece of plastic with a matte finish to the CPO to protect it.  It has a nice feel now.

Things left to do:
Find a small marquee retainer to hold it in.  I hope to use the same stuff to finish off the edges of the control panel piece.  Right now the plastic matte top is held on by the buttons.

Install the Pole Position Control on the left side.

Install the 4/6 Power switcher

Install the rest of the boards

I just now saw this project.  Very good.  I just skimmed through, but I wanted to ask if you had any pictures of all the guts inside the cabinet?

I'll take some when I crack the case tomorrow to add the new monitor.  I got a 4:3 7 inch screen so it should look much better.  It's a mess with all the soldering of the boards to the vga switcher.

Great little machine.  Think the larger LCD will greatly improve the overall look.

I got a new LCD that is 4:3 at 7" in it.  I guess I need to take some more pictures.  I need to take some new ones of the inside as well now that it is cleaned up.  We've been using it at the office quite a lot, especially during the holidays.
