why do people type in like, 'valley girl' speak?
danny_galaga:
It's, like really, like strange to me that people would type in, like 'valley girl'. to me it's like, like a speech impediment. but people don't, like usually TYPE their speech impediments, do they?
For instance. I used to work with a guy who would say almost EVERYTHING twice. Sometimes even three times. He was a really nice guy but gee would that get on my nerves sometimes. But i'm pretty certain that if he were to write a letter, he wouldn't WRITE every sentence twice, would he? Or would he? Are there any experts here on speech impediments, especially, like 'valley girl' speak?

I haven't had much problem with the like "Valley Girl" speak. Oh my god I have like totally had problems with most of my co-workers driving me crazy with incomplete sentences and multiple punctuation. I am constantly barraged with:
Did you finish yet???? The GM wants to see you!!!!!!
I once sent a company wide email asking if our employer was paying bonuses for extra puncuation, and if so do exclamation points pay more than question marks?
This calmed it down for about a week.

You expect teenage girls to not type the way they speak? Their brains are MUSH. What do you expect?

And then there was Jimmy Two Times, who got that nickname because he said everything twice, like: "I'm gonna go get the papers, get the papers."
I've kind of noticed what you're talking about. It isn't just Valley Girl, or speech impediments. It seems like people type out their verbal crutches. I guess they don't realize that just because they say it, doesn't mean it is necessary or proper.
