Do you don't know many elementary school teachers?  I do, and every one of them drops a good amount of money on supplies.  Many of them are making in the 20s or low 30s, too, which here isn't even enough to rent your own apartment.

I know quite a few elementary school teachers. My mother-in-law is an elementary school counselor, and my wife will be getting her elementary education degree in about a year. The teachers are given a $250 supply limit, and if they shop smart they can make it go a LONG way.

My wife teaches high school.  She spends pretty close to $0 per year of her own money, gets paid very well, and works shorter hours than I do at my 9 to 5 most of the time.  Oh, and she gets an entire summer off in addition to a week for thanksgiving, 3 weeks for christmas, and a week for spring break.

I used to believe that line about it being hard to be a teacher, but all the teachers I know have it pretty good.

when i first joined the work force some 18 years ago, yes it was common to get 4 weeks off. now not so common. but i figure if they value me theyll let me have it (",) the last holiday i had was for about 2 weeks. i had my own business and had to leave my sister in charge. which worked out well. shes a relief teacher and didnt have any work at that time (school holidays). the holiday before that i quite my job to go as it was 6 weeks! also, 11 years ago, i quite a job to go on a working holiday in canada. i was gone nearly 6 months.

and chad, i went for a fly for the first time in about 7 years last month. was a tad sloppy. i think adding a trackball would be an improvement for me  ;D

and shardian, yes lots of people view mercans as crazy for not getting much in the way of holidays. this is why at any time there are probably more australians on holiday in the US than vice versa. yes, we are capitalist, but we like to get out and enjoy our money. cant take it with you  :o
