It's usually easier to track my availability over at Shoryuken:

http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=134088

Currently Available:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/numbski/archives/date-posted/2008/11/09/

2 x Clear w/ iridescent finish
2 x Black Glass with metallic finish
1 x Green (Emerald) with iridescent finish

$15/each, $4.75 flat rate shipping, can ship 4 in one envelope, so 4 balls would be $64.75 shipped.

I won't be ordering any stones until I get some sort of confirmation that anyone is willing to spend $35 on a stone ball top. I have to order them in quantities of 12 or more, so ordering that many makes no sense unless I have potential buyers.

That's a pretty neat idea using D20 & 30s...  I might have buy one of those from you.  :-\
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

You know....it's odd you make that joke, as I posted a youtube link in the Shoryuken.com Trading Post thread. : :dizzy:

I won't be adding anything new to the shop for the next week, as I'll be out of the country.  I'll be back roughy a week from Friday, complete with new balls. :)

Actually, it was Montreal on a business trip. :)

I'm running a day late coming home, so I won't have a chance to put up anything new until the weekend.  I'm just glad I made it through customs!

I shipped out my first round of sales before I left, and the feedback I'm getting so far is excellent. :)

This is definitely NOT a mass manufacturing operation.  I have to keep telling people I can't do 20+ at a time.  I'm doing these one at a time, and putting them up as I have them made.  I'll take special requests, but this is something I'm doing as a hobby, not as my full time job. :D

another shopsale line for you would be making a set and ebaying them as dashknobs for classic customs.  You would have to use a different sized threaded insert obviously.

Let me know when your going to do a vaseline glass knob top please.   :D

I never ordered the drill bit, i was doing a surface bond to a brass ferule, but they didn't hold.  Looked nifty until they came off though.

Vaseline glass knob????

 :dunno

I seriously have no idea what you're talking about. :P  I use brass inserts, wrapped in plastic, and use the vacuum suction to hole the insert in place...

Vaseline glass is actually quite awesome, when UV hits it glows, under normal lighting conditions it looks like light green glass the niftiest ones are a mixture that looks like molten lava under UV.

link to an image of a plain one under UV lighting.

That same link mentions that its a safe end product, you have the same precaution when drilling regular glass.  The problem is silica dust.  It gets into your lungs and causes microscopic slices.  If he's drilling glass he should have the respirator and wash station anyway.

And we all follow safety practices dont we.  heh heh

Actually, I wasn't aware of the silica dust problem.  Thanks for the head's up.

I actually went looking for uranium glass, and the problem is that 1" is the largest I could find.  You want 35mm (or close to it).  That's 1 3/8".  If you find a source, let me know. ;)

I have a couple of new balls I've made, but they aren't up on the store yet.  Navy blue glass with a mirror/chrome finish.  VERY nice looking, btw.

My father in-law did design work a couple of years for libby glass making molds in the early 70's  he designed most of the cut-glass ware and almost all of their 3d glassware.  He says thats why their are no old-timers doing it.  7 years is about the max before the lungs get completely shredded because it goes in but doesn't come back out.  Baically any time you grind, polish, or cut glass you want a full respirator

This is very useful stuff.  The thing that puzzles me is the fact that I'm constantly flooding the workpiece with water.  I wouldn't expect it to ever get airborne. :|

This isn't worth dying over, of course.  When you say a full respirator, you mean have a tank of breathable O2 sitting by and you breathe from the tank?  Or just a good quality dustmask?

I would use one of those 3m jobbies that covers your nose/mouth with the replacable cartridge filters.   A step up from the standard i'm working with wood fiber, universal cloth masks.  It depends on how much you value your health long-term.  Your flooding the work surface, but how much slurry is left to dry after you've drilled?

I dont know, with the water flood if it was my shop, i'd end up using a quality dust mask and get out the big one for cleanup if any of the slurry has dried.  I use air tools and anything left to dry could get into the air while cleaning up or working on other things.

If your painting, a 3m painters mask would work great and you probably have one already.

Unfortunately at this time I don't have a need for them, but you do fantastic work.  This may be a long shot, but do you have a way to use a hollow shaft so you could put an LED inside of the ball to light up?  That might be a nice seller.

The vendor doesn't sell them that big. :(  Sorry.

I'd buy two, but I'd be more inclined to buy a pair of the blue chrome.

Well, the trick is that these are literally all I have left in stock.  I have more coming, and I have a back FULL of metallics coming, so I can pretty much guarantee there are more where that came from.

If you're wanting to commission a color-matched pair, PM me and I'll make sure to get you pics and everythign prior to shipping.  Price is the same.

Forget if I've mentioned here, but I ship in flat-rate envelopes that are $4.68, and I can typically fit 4 ball tops in a bag.  Perhaps as many as 6 if I really squeezed, but I've shipped 4 to someone and they said the balls came through just fine.  FYI.

Sadly, 5 of the six that I put up for sale didn't sell. :(

I'll accept offers...

Sorry for the sudden silence.  This thing called "real life" kinda got the best of me...

anyhoo.  I have all balls in stock, but my jig is torn up.  I have (literally) 40 new jigs coming in the mail.  I had 1 jig before - so I should be able to ramp up production pretty good now. :)

More pictures as they become available.  Rule of thumb - $15/ball top, I can ship up to 4 in a flat rate envelope, and shipping is $4.68.

If I were to send you some square wooden blocks could you round them off and drill for the inserts?  Or would I have to send you the hardwood balls?  I am looking for cherry, walnut and a few other hardwoods.

TTFN

Check out pages 5 - 8 to get a good look at his balls...

(That sure could get taken out of context!)

These still available? Still very interested. I wonder if you make any custom ones also. Something where I could give you a very small action figure and you could encase it in a 30mm ball then make that a ball top.

I.....vanished.  It's been a very rough year.  I haven't messed with my glass rig in as long.  I'm trying to get rolling again.  As soon as I have stuff available, I'll post again. :(

Okay, here's the story.  I have 100 color glass balls sitting here staring at me, along with 50 black "torpedos" and 50 clear glass.  They all have an iridescent finish, except the metallics.  My old jig is still torn up, I had someone make me new ones, but they were made wrong.

 :hissy:

So - I have the pieces to make 2 new jigs, and presuming I get a decent process down for those, I'll make 10 more, and then my wife and I can spend any evening watching tv, taping my balls up and putting them in a jig.

I can then drill them, take pictures, put them up on the intarweb for you guys to buy.  I just can't seem to keep a job long enough to feel okay with the time and money investment.  I have the supplies (aside from for the rest of the jigs), so it comes down to time.

Since my store is down, pricing is typically $15 per ball top, and I ship in a flat-rate envelope, can hold 4 glass tops, possibly 6.  Since Luigi is selling stainless steel shafts with LED's, I have 4 on order from him - depending upon how much deeper the hole needs to be ground out to accomodate the LED, I may make them all LED-compatible from now on.  Don't kid yourself - you WILL NOT be able to drill these deeper yourself.  Trust me on this one - if I had a Flickr Pro account, you'd see how much trouble I went to in order to be able to drill balls AT ALL.

So - that's my status.  I have stainless shafts coming in, and I'm hoping to ramp up production a bit (again).

Currently Available:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/numbski/archives/date-posted/2008/11/09/

2 x Clear w/ iridescent finish
2 x Black Glass with metallic finish
1 x Green (Emerald) with iridescent finish

$15/each, $4.75 flat rate shipping, can ship 4 in one envelope, so 4 balls would be $64.75 shipped.

I won't be ordering any stones until I get some sort of confirmation that anyone is willing to spend $35 on a stone ball top. I have to order them in quantities of 12 or more, so ordering that many makes no sense unless I have potential buyers.
