happ trackball problem

I'm having some problems with my 3" happ trackball.  I changed out the encoder wheels with the ones from GGG.  I read on the boards that they weren't made for happs, but they still work fine.  Anyway, I switched them, and now the trackball is acting crazy.  The y-axis is inverted and the x-axis zig-zags when you try to move left and right.  Like you move left and it goes left an inch then back right an inch.  Its hard to describe.  Does anyone have any clue what could be wrong?

If this is happening in mame try the trackball in windows.
nic8612:
No, its just the trackball in general.  In mame, windows, anything.  Its just acting really strange.

And I have tried a regular mouse and it functions perfectly.  No inverted axis or anything.

Why did you need to switch out the the encoder wheels in the first place?

Sounds like its moving both the encoder wheels when spinning. I would check to see if there is any binding or wear in the rollers, or perhaps one of the rollers is not firmly seated?
