Wedding Reception Music?

(1/9) > >>

AtomSmasher:
Long story short, in order to save money at my cousin's wedding, my uncle, my brother-in-law, and I will be DJ'ing the reception.  We have all the equipment (my brother-in-law was a DJ 10+ years ago), but no one seems to know what we need for the music.  I think my brother-in-law has all of the cheesy ones like the chicken dance and the macarena (I'm going to fight them against playing those, but I know I'll lose), but he doesn't seem to have much more then that.

Anyone know good songs to play at a wedding reception?

Feel free to make long lists, because we'll have to keep the music going for several hours.

I'd suggest checking with the couple to see what they'd like to hear (or more importantly, what they'd like NOT to hear).  Other than that, fun ones that can get a reaction include:

Jump Around
Twist and Shout
The Humpty Dance
The Loco-motion
Play That Funky Music
Brickhouse
Everybody Wants You
The Electric (electric slide)
Brown Eyed Girl (if the bride has brown eyes, of course...)

Also make sure to have some sappy slow songs for slow dancing.

If you think you might need to clear the dance floor at some point, have an AC/DC song on tap.  I love AC/DC, and I'm not sure why it is, but if you play AC/DC at a wedding, the dance floor will empty.

If all else fails, remember that everybody likes Elvis.

Oh yeah, and don't forget a swing song or two.  The old people will flip.

Thanks for the tips, I actually just asked the bride a few hours ago to make a list of any songs she wants to hear.  The wedding isn't for another two months, so theres no rush, I just don't want to wait till the last minute to find the music.

I'm getting married in a month and a day, and definitely good call on asking the bride/groom what music they want.  round here, we do the shot dance, which is polkas, have some 80's slow music, line dance music like the electric slide, macarena, etc... and a few songs that they like.
