Atari Tempest $50 ... Good deal ?
y2k600f4:
I am in the search for a console and parts for my multi-arcade project. I have yet decided on the specifics such as monitor etc but like my previous post I want an older cabinet to maintain the nostalgia and do as little modifications as possible with the addition of such items as custom controls etc.
Anyway I have the opportunity to purchase a midway Arch Rivals basketball and atari tempest for $100 for both.. which comes to $50 each. Both currently are not working. Coin doors are include and (1) has the coin box (don't know which one). I was told both are in "good" shape probably with some scratches etc.
I have to make a decision shortly, so any suggestions would greatly be appreciated !!!!!!!!

Without inspection of the equipment, it's hard to know what you'd get. But, if it's not an inconvenience to you to get them, $100 for a buy is not bad. That way if it's a total bust, at least you're not out much other than your time and a Benjamin.
Why are they not working?

A complete Tempest for $50? Run, do not walk, and buy it. Do not gut it. Fix it up.
Hey, do you live in NC?
ChadTower:
If he passes up a $50 Tempest I'll slap him from here.
If he MAMEs it I'll do it again.
Dude, buy the Tempest if you have to build a way to get it home out of old skateboards.

I just want to clarify regarding this post and any other related posts. I just want to say I am new to this, even though I have spent years playing arcade games, I have never owned nor built one or restored any. I have done lots of reading on BYOAC and other sites across the internet. I am familiar with the classics and Video Arcade Preservation Society and would never in anyway destroy a classic. I was just checking out some other posts that did some work on some Tempest consoles (conversions etc). I apologize if anybody got the wrong idea. I hope I can still utilize this site for its many resources and hopefully one day contribute in some way. Thank you.
