Apache Controls Spinner Trade-Up Program!

Well, actually, to get the whole deal out of DOT you need a flight stick with at least one thumb button. Spinner for targeting (and up/down for lattitudinal throwing), and stick for movement, with the thumb button for 'deflect'. Of course, then there's the bouncing a shot off the ceiling, and I'm not sure how that's controlled.

Anyways, for both directions, spinner-wise, you can use your trackball with decent success.

All of the DOT controls can be achieved with a push/pull spinner and a top fire joystick.

You don't need to have a flightstick.

How do you block then?

To be honest I achieved the same for under £7.

I bought a cheapo mouse for the mouse hack and a USB Joystick.  The Joystick was kinda special, as it was on special for a start for £5 at www.maplin.co.uk (don't bother they are out of stock) but you can probably get the same stick on Ebay.

Ok whats so special about this joystick?... Well lets see.

You have the trigger and middle button for the block and fire but also two left and right buttons for up and down.  I got higher scores on this set up than on the arcade environmental when I used to play it in my early 20s.  As the push and pull didn't really work for me.

So look at the average Joe/Jan forking out $150 for a replica he/she might use once in a blue moon or my setup that would just about work on any panel as the stick has suction cups.

Sorry to poo poo on this Thread as I'm sure the spinner is a great product, but can you justify spending that amount for just one game?

More importantly this is more of the spirit of building your own setup, which this board encourages.
