Control Panel Art
« on: April 17, 2003, 08:11:32 pm »
This isn't finished, but it is close. I was gonna put it up here to ask for some opinions about a few finishing touches. look for these things:
1)Do you prefer the light pink shading above the left or right shoulder (left is <--- not spidy's left)
2)Should i add the dark red to the lower shoulder and lower forehead?
3)Should he say "BOO!"
4)Comment on anything else you notice
Thanks

Great job, man!  You did an excellent job there.  :D

I would say don't make him say "boo".  Talk about your un-intimidating super heroes.   ;)  The image is best left by itself, IMO.

Do you have a pic of what it will look like with all the joysticks and buttons in place?  I'm hoping you didn't go through all this work only to have a big trackball right in the middle of Spidey's face. :)

Holy cow that looks awesome! You can tell you spent a lot of energy making this look great.  Excellent job, dude.  That's what I'm talking about - clear and crisp images at any resolution/size  ;D

Since you asked for comments, this is what I would do:
Think about the whole CP design.  Is it going to include the black bar up top and the lines around the edges with the yellow gradients? If it was me, I'd put spidey on some type of dark background, maybe with a subtle black/blue vertical gradient - just so it's not so bright white.
And I'd suggest maybe finishing off his left hand (his right), I know the original doesn't have it finished, but it looks weird unfinished. He just looks a little offset here.
Anyways - now you have a great piece you can use for sideart or marquee or whatever - maybe make a mcfarlane-ish spiderweb theme for the artwork and add him somewhere.
Again, looks great  :)

Fantastic work!!

Have his caption say something game-ish.  Like "Game on" (I know, corny)  or something like that.

I would agree with frost though, If you going to do the whole cp in Spidey tones, might as well carry the theme throughout the whole cab.

I would recommend removing the pink and replacing it with the red.  The pink is most likely there because of the red right next to the white.  Besides Spidey wouldn't wear tights with bleach stains...   ;D

Ok.. this is what we have now.

http://comp.uark.edu/~brisch/spiders.JPG

The first is just spiderman
the second is spiderman with text
the third is spiderman stretched, no text
obviously

I kinda like the second, but I might break down and trace the original spider-man title from the comic books, but it curves the other way so i would have to figure something out there...

I think the second one looks best out of all 3. ;D
BUT replace the yellow logo with something blue/red mix.and you cant call your joystick *Spiderman*.
Make a name for your joystick or something then it should be 100% complete.
I can't believe images can be fixed all nicely like this :o.
very good work !  :)

The second one definitely looks the best.  I think mostly because the text fills in the empty area behind Spidey.  You need something back there to keep it from looking too sparse.  Personally, i would use the text from this picture behind ol' web head.

It's just about the perfect size to completely fill in the blue area.  You could use some sort of fade if it looks too dominating.  And definitely keep the letters so that they look like they're behind Spidey.

Great work so far!

i really dig it, but the gradients-for-eyes doesnt really sit well with me. i dont have a problem with it being a gradient, but the black and white seems like it is backwards to me (have the highlight be white - not black).  i could be totally wrong though.

Nice job.....

This is the CP overlay??  I'd hate to punch a bunch of holes in that work of art....why not use it for the marquee and do something else Spidy related for the CP (like instead of stars denoting Joystick directions, webbing in a star shape).  Just a thought.  Plus, as a marquee, Spidy would be leaning in and looking down at you playing....

Just my 2 cents....

Beautiful work.
