I get so jealous with everyone whipping out their Taito cabinets the last week or so. I backburnered mine, but now it will come back to the forefront...but it'll probably still sit.

Anyways, nice job on stenciling the sideart. Where would this hobby be without people doing things like this?

JoyMonkey:

Today I wired up a Jamma connector and played a few quick games of Robotron using an old PC and AdvanceMAME. The monitor seems to be in good shape, my own gripe is that the vhold seems to be a tiny bit jittery. That could also be my AdvanceMAME config settings to blame though. The Bao-Lian joysticks will take a little getting used to; the spring seems weak so they flop around a little too easily for my liking.
Tomorrow I'll try out a Windows PC and the new Soft-15KHz utility. Once I'm done testing a couple of things out it's back to tracing the sideart.

JoyMonkey:

Today I took the coin-door apart, sanded it and primed it.

Taking it apart took a lot longer than I expected, but after about an hour I had all the old rusty nuts and bolts out and then removed the Taito logo plate with a razor blade. I used a little Grog adhesive remover on the sticky old adhesive that the logo plate left behind.

Then I sanded the living crap out of it and hit it with a coat of primer.

theres a reasonable Polaris PCB on eBay now http://cgi.ebay.com/TAITO-POLARIS-GOOD-VIDEO-GAME-BOARDS-MANUALS-/270591063429?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item3f007bf585
the control panels for our machines originally looked like in the Polaris flyer
5/8's pressboard with metal on top.
