Is there any way to compile earlier versions of mame? I'm currently using .37b16 and 0.59 on my 400 mhz. I followed the links but seems to be for .63 and up.

Sorry.  Its a U.S. insurance company.  Their commercials feature cavemen who get insulted because their spokesmen say its so easy a cave man could do it.

Trust me.  Compiling Mame is very easy and does not take long.  See the hiscore diff thread that is stickied at the top.  Compiling with this patch puts hi score support back into Mame and removes the unwanted warnings.

HE LIES! Geico is actually G.E.I.C.O., or General Electronic Individual Calibrated for Obliteration. They're a secret governmental organization composed of killing robots, or Murderbots™, tasked with the destruction of those trying to recompile arcade roms that secretly contain government documents. I mean, what did you think, people were actuall playing games with these roms? HA! G.E.I.C.O. has been transferring secrets in this way for decades. And building so-called "MAME Cabs"? Nope, simply a front for those that contruct these Murderbots™.

Go, now, get out of your house! They're already locked on to your location, they'll be there momentarily. Get on the first plane to Helsinki, lay low for a while, and I'll contact you when the coast is clear. I'll will contact you under the guise of "Mr. Peabody". Until then, god speed.

I, too, would like to know this. There are no "compile utilities" for versions under .63

Hey SGT, I must still have some caveman DNA....couldn't get the recompiling to fully work.

I followed Mr. Do's instructions on recompiling, but still have some Q's.

I wasn't sure if I had to edit the makemame.bat and patchmame.bat...so didin't, also skipped the apply the DIFF update.

I got it to compile, but only 3 of the 4 folders were in my MAMESRC folder. It was missing xml2info.exe.

That all said. even after copying them to my mame folder...what do I do with them. The only thing I could think of was there may be some added things I can change in the mame.ini file???

All I want to do is get rid of the "there are known problems with this game, the video/sound emulation is not 100% accurate"

Also....just wondering if the lastest version of mame, has this option already programmed, that way, I could just get a new rom set!!

Told you I was a bit lost with this.

Hope you can help (In plain old "dumb ass" speak please)

Cheers
SGT:
Sounds like you got it to compile. You just didn't apply the hi_score patch by editing the patchmame.bat file.   The file xml2info.exe wasn't there for me nor was it needed.  To try it again, I would start with fresh (empty) folders for c:\mingw and c:\mamesrc.  Here is what I did:

NOTE:  These instructions for version 0114 are only possible because of Mr. Do's excellent compiling instructions found here:
http://www.mameworld.net/mrdo/compile.html

1) Download mingw-mame-20060210.exe from:
http://www.mamedev.org/tools/
Run it and in the "extract to" box type C:\

2) Download dx80_mgw.zip from
http://www.mamedev.org/tools/
Extract it to the c:\mingw folder

3) Download the mame source mame0114s.zip from here:
http://mirrors.xmission.com/mame/main/mame0114s.zip

4) Inside mame0114s.zip is another zip file called mame.zip
Extract the contents of mame.zip to c:\mamesrc

5) Download hi_114.txt from this thread:
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=64298.0
Put hi_114.txt into the c:\mamesrc folder

6) Download the patch utilities here:
http://www.mameworld.net/mrdo/files/compile_extras.zip
Extract the contents into the c:\mamesrc folder

7) Edit the line in the patchmame.bat to read:
patch -p0 -E <hi_114.txt

8. At the command prompt in the c:\mamesrc directory type:
patchmame

9) At the command prompt in the c:\mamesrc directory type:
makemame

Note: You may need the latest galaga rom to work with this version of Mame.  Or you can use older Mame source, but be sure to use the hi_score patch to match the older source.  The earliest hi_score patch that I see is  hi_107u2.txt  (for Mame 1.07)
