Question Regarding Wiki (kinda off topic not this wiki)

I thought I'd post this here to see if anyone familar with Wiki editing knew the answer.

We have a wiki at work that I am trying to do something with. Its based off the wiki from http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki if it matters. This is what I am trying to do. We have a public drive on our computer that I have certain support documents housed. I would to be able to create an article and place a link in it that would direct your or even better open the document on the public drive. For instance I have some documentation I've done that is in word or pdf and I would like to say click on the link to access this document. I can't see to figure out how to get a hyperlink to do this with a local file. I can do it with a http: address though.

Anyone have any ideas?

Try formatting a link something like this:

file://///<servername>/<directory>/<filename>

For instance, a file named "bookmarks.html" in the "John" folder in the "Backup" shared folder on the "Server" server would look like:

file://///Server/Backup/John/bookmarks.html

.............

You can try to get the exact syntax by using your web browser, going File-Open, browsing your network to the server/folder, opening the file in question, and then copying the link.

Well I tried it several different ways to no luck.  Here is how it is formated when I browse for it.  When I edit the wiki article it shows exactly what I put, but not in hyperlink form.:

file:///P:/support/Internal%20Support/Transfering%20Putty%20Settings.pdf

You should try to add [ ] to it. A [[documentname]] syntax is a wikilink to connect wikidocuments, a [hyperlink] syntax is used for hyperlinks. The square brackets tell the Wiki software to convert that section of text to a hyperlink.
