Perspex - Where to buy UK

Pages: (1/1)

gajaman:

I'm looking for some 6mm clear perspex sheets about 1000mm x 500mm. Does anyone know where I can get some in the UK?

Thanks

Moebius:

Although I'm in Ireland, I got a sheet from B&Q. Could be worth a try  :)

Cave:

yep, I also got some from B&Q in various thickness, the thick stuff can be quite pricey tho. If your planning on using this for bezel front, have you considered glass, I originally had perspex then had some smoked glass cut, much better results.

Grasshopper:

Do you specifically want Perspex or will another type/brand of clear plastic sheeting do?

As a previous poster said plastic sheeting can be bought from all the DIY chains.

Last time I visited Homebase I came across a brochure for this company.

www.arielplastics.com

They appear to supply all the chains with their sheeting.

Incidentally according to a previous thread (http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=3602;start=0) Plexiglass=acrylic and Lexan=polycarbonate. Ariel plastics seem to sell both types of materials in a veriety of thicknesses.

gajaman:

Thanks - I tried B&Q's webbie but they didn't have any - I'll raid a store to see if they have.

Funny that someone should mention Ariel Plastics, I replaced my garage roof with their wriggly plastic sheeting a few weeks ago! I didn't know they did flat.

I want the stuff for a control panel overlay, I have been using 18mm MDF but I am re making my cabinet to look more professional (I'm feeling humbled by some of the cabs appearing lately). I want to go for 12mm MDF with 6mm clear sheet making 18mm so that the thickness is the same as the rest of the cabinet and will take the t - moulding.

I will need to drill numerous holes in it and cut the edges, the latter, presumably with a router.

Anyone know,

A, What would be best for this (bearing in mind the drilling and cutting) lexan, polycarb or perspex?

B, Can I use a spade bit to cut the button holes or will I need a hole cutter? (I haven't got a hole cutter the right size).

and finally

C, Can I use a regular straight cutting router bit for the edges or do I need a special one for plastics?

Thanks guys.
