ChadTower:

The Mankind/Taker Hell in a Cell was a great match, I agree, but I would rather not see anyone take that type of abuse in a match.  There is a limit to how far they should go to entertain and going off the cage like that is too much.  The fall through the cage was an accident, sure, but the other one sure wasn't.

How many other guys have we seen doing stuff like that over the years since that didn't have to?  Look at AJ Styles... TNA won't put him at the top, where he belongs, and he's finally tired of that so much that rather than have the great matches he is capable of, he's dropping off three story scaffolds and flipping off a cage to get attention.  That's the influence Mick Foley has had.  Great worker, great style for him, but IMO it led directly to so many poor imitations and completely unnecessary risks.

Really? I always thought it was set-up as well. Either way, totally brutal. When we watched that match back in the day, we were in awe to say the least.

ChadTower:

That's my assumption, and I think I remember Have a Nice Day stating it, but can't remember for sure now.  That fall was way too hard for anyone to try and expect to not sustain serious injury.  Not even Mick Foley.

The promo that officially turned The Ringmaster into Stone Cold Steve Austin.

ChadTower:

I was thinking about that recently... watching ECW 1996 TV while doing other stuff.  Austin turned into Stone Cold in ECW, really... and if you look closely, much of what he became the Sandman had been doing for at least a year.  I wonder if Stone Cold Steve Austin would have ever happened if Austin doesn't spend those months in ECW near the Sandman.  Now, granted, the Sandman didn't have much in terms of ring skills and charisma, but his beer swilling, profanity tossing, cane anyone that moves character is very much Stone Cold two years later.
