.Wav file suggestions for Loadmans Emu-Wave plugin for Mala
Timoe:
I figure we should start a thread for .wav file suggestions for the Emu-Wave plugin for Mala.
What about wav files from the original consoles? The sounds the consoles made when booting up for example. Anyone have any such .wav files?

I'm building a cab around the old Wargames movie/WOPR theme, so there's lots of good movie quotes I can throw in there (like on startup playing: Shall we play a game, how about a nice game of chess, etc. and on exit 'strange game, the only winning move is not to play').
There were some good ones from the Last Starfighter I was considering as well like "I've always wanted to fight a desperate battle against incredible odds!"
I'm sure there's tons of movie .wavs (there's a heap of star wars ones) that would be applicable should you decide to go that route.

How about the sound of blowing on an NES cart and struggling to get it to work? :)
Hrm... something like this is so subjective to individual tastes and thematic goals (layout, background music, etc.) but I guess I see what you're shooting for. I would imagine anything (movies, music, tv) that is even remotely game-related would be prime fodder. Going back to the NES, someone should do a "Wizard" layout...
As for my cab, I went custom; rather than put myself in it, I called in a favor to one of my classmates from grad school and she did some great voice work for me. My cab has an "announcer" I guess (think like NBA Jam, or NFL Blitz) and she's a hottie. Thematically, we settled on a younger, sexified version of the British lady from The Weakest Link, so my cab also has a bit of a sadistic streak. Lets just say quitting a game does not please her! >:D
Knowing that the plugin is going to come out sooner or later, I had her do a bunch of different takes of a bunch of appropriate (and inappropriate!) phrases. When it does finally come out (looking at you, loadman! ;D) all I have to do is point it at the folders, and I've got instant variety.
I know I'm kinda bragging on it right now, but a cohesive theme REALLY ties together a layout, no matter what you use.

How about some good Duke Nukem .wav's like:
"I'm Duke Nukem, and I'm coming to get the rest of you alien ---daisies---."
"Get back to work, you slacker."
"You're an inspiration for birth control."
: "Blow it out your a@#!"
"Come get some!"
"Hail to the king, baby."
"Ooo, that's gotta hurt."
"It's time to kick ass and chew bubblegum... and I'm all outta gum." (my favorite)
