48 in 1 pcb board
Hawk Daddy:
are these things worth it?
I'm stuck between using the monitor that I already have 25 pulled from a mercs, or buying a tv, wiring up some xbox controllers and doing it that way. The tv will be at least $200, for all the controller parts will be at minimum $70, and for the speaker system will be at least $50. If I got the 48 in 1 pcb, I could spend probally no more the $15 for the controls and $10 for a speaker, maybe $20 for the jamma adapter and $30 for a power supply. And of coarse $250 for the PCB, and be done with it that way. What do you guys think about the multi boards?

If you want to keep this thread, you are going to want to remove the link. It's OK to talk about these boards, but being that they are bootlegs, linking to the product is a no-no.
I have a 48-in-1 that I am prepping my Donkey Kong Jr. cabinet for. I wanted a Multi-Kong, with all 3 Kongs, and this was, by far, the most economical way to do that. I plan on keeping it 1 button, 4-way, which eliminates a good chunk of the 48 games that come with the board, but I don't care...everything above and beyond the DK, DK Jr., and DK3 is a bonus.
I've considered wiring either the P1 or P2 button as the 2nd button, but aside from QIX, I can't think of any other game on the board that is 4-way + 2 button...though I am likely missing a game or two...
My understanding of the board is that there are basically 3 different versions of this board floating around...lets call them A, B, and C. A boards are the original with all the original components. Aside from a couple of sound issues (I have seen 1942 sounds come up in discussions), the board works as advertised. The B & C boards are knock-offs of the A board and each gets progressively worse with the C boards having issues such as losing settings at power down, game bugs, etc.
There is a nice write up on how to identify the A, B, and C boards over at the KLOV forums....search for 48 in 1 or 48 to 1.

Aren't these basicaly a PC running the games in some kind of emulation ?
F.I., Donkey Kong has hardware created sounds. These are sampled in MAME. How do these boards handle that ?
I am wondering just HOW close these boards come compared to the REAL orignal PCB's ?
FrizzleFried:
The 48-in-1 boards are actual JAMMA arcade boards...not a PC running emulation software. The other boards out there (111-in-1, 170-in-1, 465-in-1, and 1000-in-1) are all mini PC's running emulation software. The 111, 170, and 465 in 1 boards use a memory card for storage while the 1000 in 1 actually comes with a hard drive with the roms stored on it. The 48-in-1 is not quite the same.
I love my 48-in-1 board...there ARE some minor audio differences but gameplay and graphics are spot on.
