childhood memories - destroyed!

Beware....this thread is not for the weak of heart...this is a tale of much woe.

In the last two weeks, I have been completely devastated by the realization that two of my most treasured childhood memories are nothing more than garbage.

I was at work a few weeks ago, and mentioned to a friend that a new Robotech movie came out on DVD and we got to talking about it. Robotech came out when I was about 11, and I remember it being absolutely AMAZING. Jet fighters transforming into giant robots and then fighting aliens that are just as big, and all this cool stuff in space, etc....Well, my buddy mentions that he has the entire series on DVD and he would lend them to me. I had never seen the "Robotech Masters" or "The New Generation", so I was excited to see them....the next day I find a stack of about 15 DVDs on my desk. Over the course of the next two weeks, I watched each disk (It helps when you work 12 hours during the night and have the entire week off)....each disk got worse and worse, the story getting thinner and thinner, the characters becoming more and more annoying. I could bare no more. It was true.....the great Robotech was nothing more than a steaming pile of crap.

Then...to make matters worse....I got a movie in the mail friday. I was so excited, because I had not seen this movie since I was 6 when it came out in the theater and I loved it at the time....So, I sat down with a bowl of popcorn and popped in "The Black Hole". Ugh. I nearly crapped my pants it was so awful. From the piano wires to the guys floating in space without a space suit or any form of oxygen....

Dear God WHY!!!!!

Oh well....at least Tron still kicks ass!

I can sympathize - I was just informed in the other movie post that Flash Gordon is actually a crappy movie.  I intend to preserve my childhood memories by not watching it again.

kinda the same with Star Wars for me.

I liked Episode 4 and 5.  I was 10 when 4 came out, 13 when 5 came out.  The 3 years between movies was the longest 3 years of my life.  When Return of the Jedi came along, I was 16.  Lucas had to add those damn ewoks and go all cuties with the movie.  Everyone of the movies after that was crap.  I hate what Star Wars became.  I just relish the memories of 4 and 5.  I try to pretend the rest never happened.

Speaking of Star Wars....does anyone listen to Stern on Sirus?

He was destroying Lucas for the sham that SW turned out to be. It was very funny.

Something about quit trying give famous people cameos and writing a decent script. And then he called him a joke

Lucas did wonders for the special effects and the visuals but as a story teller he's not so good.

Not a very bright business man either.  He sold Pixar to Steve Jobs for 10 million.  Disney bought it for 7.4 billion.
