Collectibles
SithMaster:
I have and it pissed me off when they used n64 controllers for an xbox game. But he had some weird stuff like the monster collectibles talk about weird. Oh and im not 40 (only 19) but most of my stuff is from childhood and i only still have it because i dont throw things i like away.
I actually didnt buy the stuff for future monetary worth but because i wanted to play with the toys and games. its not like im ever going to sell.
by the way what kind of minis was he painting? i always wanted to get into wh40k but yeah wel im not rich.
KenToad:
Yeah, those Warhammer miniatures are pretty expensive and then you have to have a setup with the magnifying glass and strong light like he had to really do it properly. I played once with some unpainted figures on a bare tabletop. It just wasn't nearly as cool as it looks in the magazines, kind of reminded me of seeing those elaborate dioramas for action figures in the Sears Wish Book and many many hours of daydreaming about having all those figures and a playfield like that. Nobody could have told me then that playing war with those action figures was the flip side of playing house with dolls, but of course now I can see the uncanny similarities in the underlying structure of role-play and simplified interaction, or something ... nevermind.
ChadTower:
A couple of years ago when I was out looking for games at yard sales I ended up with a whole big box full of unopened Warhammer stuff for about $5. Made a good profit on those on ebay.
MYX:
My wife collected the Beanie Babies for a while. It was a sickness and it spread through the family. I got sucked in for a little while, but was smart enough to sell them off before everyone realized that it was just not worth spending $50 for a stupid tie died bear. I sold my stuff and in 1 garage sale got enough money to buy all my rock climbing gear. Sweet.
I have a small collection of 1 rel Faust comics. I was really into the art of Tim Vigil for a while (High School). I thought that Faust was some of the most outrageous art in a comic I had ever seen. It does nothing but sit in a box. I just recently sold my Simpson's comics set 1 & 2. they were complete and had many of the special cards. Worth much...no, but I love the Simpson's, so the worth was more personal. I also have the first few Simpson's comics that were released. I have several of the little Simpson's scenes. Including Noiseland Arcade.
But now, I do not much collect stuff, except vids, and pins. It just seemed to be too much of a hassle. [edit] And unfortunately, it has been so dang busy lately, they (the cabs and pin have their own collection...dust.[/edit]
check out Figure Club. It is not half bad and actually kinda funny if you can make it through the groolingly long and unnecessary opening credits at the begining. It is a take off of Fight Club about collectors of Star Wars figures.
TheOtherBob:
I had a bunch of the Star Wars stuff a long time ago.... I had the big plastic Death Star that a friend and I threw a bunch of gas on and lit it up.... Burned up the X-Wing fighter too in that horrific moment....
I also have a bunch of hockey cards from the 70's. Probably worthless... Guy Lafleur! Marcell Dionne! woohoo
I had a respectable sized collection of Legos (mostly from the 70's/early 80's). I sold off all of my Star Wars legos just recently. I just can't get rid of the 70's stuff tho...
My only neat-o thing of any value is my Milton Bradley Dark Tower game. Sometimes they get crazy money on ebay.... go figure.... great game tho.
