Just a quick question, was there a reason you didnt use the wireless controller?  Im guessing nobody tries to map the RT/LT buttons?

I plan on hacking a wireless controller this summer after I move to Phoenix.  I haven't done it yet for two reasons: one, they're more expensive, and two, they have some funky security screws holding them together.  The wired controllers only use normal phillips head screws.

RT and LT are analog buttons, no real way to map those.

I read on the shoryuken forum that you need resistors for the RT/LT buttons.  That is far beyond my skillset though.  I bought a wireless controller to try this before I saw this thread.  Im going to have to see If I want to tackle this.  I would be wiring this to a MAS stick.

I need to sort out the triggers on my my box too. This should help for wireless:

It looks like you just need to solder the resistor from RT2 to RT3 and LT2 to LT3.

Haruman,

Can you also hack the LT and RT buttons?  I noticed that only RB and LB are hacked.

LT and RT are analog, so short answer is no...  once I get out to Phoenix I plan on experimenting with the analog side of the controls to see what I can come up with.  It'd be nice to find a solution.

Here are some images of most of the set-ups (I have around 20 stand-up sticks):
http://www.thetemplearcade.com/about/the_temple/gallery.asp

Here are some picks of the actual stick construction: http://www.thetemplearcade.com/about/sticks/gallery.asp

I am looking to mod some Xbox 360 controllers for my sticks... right now I have swap boxes to change between Sega Saturns, Sega Dreamcasts, and PS2s and button top configurations for each game... Four button ones for Tekken, Arched four buttons for SoulCalibur, Five buttons for Guilty Gear, and Six buttons for all the normal games in the world  ;D

Quick question....since I'm a newbie and this will be my first ever controller...would it be easier / better to get a wire one for testing / trouble shooting? or would it not matter?

I plan on doing two controllers, so I could get a wired one first and the second one do wireless, but having both wireless would be the best for me.

Any update on your wireless adventures....

Also...looking a bit more closely on your tutorial....i don't see you adding the guide button....is there a reason for that?

Hope to order a controller from you next week (waiting on confirmation on the joystick parts i want to buy).....would love it to be wireless....

I'm going to start the wireless one today or tomorrow...  and I do add the guide button, but there wasn't enough room on the terminal strips for it.  I just use about a foot of stranded wire for the guide button.

Another update:  I have successfully hacked the RT and LT buttons.  I'll post a pic later.  So now, all the buttons that are available are: X, B, A, Y, Back, Start, Guide, RB, RT, LB, LT, as well as the 4 D-pad directions.

These tools are handy...  free up your hands for more precise control of the Dremel and a soldering iron later.

What's that tool called? I see a lot of third hands everywhere, but I've never seen that before.

I have no idea what it's called.   :dizzy: I got it from a guy who works with satellite electronics.  It's great because the two arms are spring-loaded and adjustable.  Plus you can rotate the thing on 3 axis to get the best positioning.

This thread should be made sticky! Nice writeup of this hack.

I have a couple questions about this hack in particular and XBox 360 games on arcade controls in general.
First of all, I don't own a 360, but I am in the final stages of building my cab and I am trying to wire it so I can easily connect it to a hacked controller like this if I wanted to drop a 360 in there.  Most importantly for now, I want to decide if I should add a 7th/8th buttons to my CP if all the XBox buttons are hacked.

So here's my questions:

1. I am confused about the hacking of the RB/LB analog buttons. So if these are analog, how would you use these connected to arcade buttons? Would activating this button be equal to pressing the analog button down by 100%? Are there games this would be useful on?

2. What XBox 360 games would be usable on an arcade CP? I can see that all the XBLA games would be good, as I assume they only use the digital buttons and sticks. What other 360 games can be played well without the use of the analog sticks? Any of the more recent / advanced fighters and such?

Thanks for the info!
Rob

1)  Yes, hacking the analog triggers converts them to digital in the sense that you either have 0% or 100%, nothing in between.

2)  As far as I know, most people have been using them for XBLA.  Some fighters will work with it, I know I've been wanting to build a controller of my own to play DOA 4 with.

Do you also have a wire connected to the sync button? And is it possible to attatch the play&charge kit, like in this picture:

(that would be ideal; so you can leave the battery inside of the arcadestick, and just recharge it with a usb cable without having to open the stick!)

Yes, I can do it with a play and charge kit, as pictured.  Also, I do not normally wire up the sync button (it's has a tiny button you can press on the PCB itself), but it could be done very easily.

Hey HarumaN, dunno if you know this already or not but the new version of the wireless 360 controller pcb guts now have common ground on everything but the LT & RT triggers

hopefully they will revise the wired controller to be the same  :applaud:

Great! Also do you maybe have the dimensions of the hacked wireless pcb? I'm interested in buying two, but I need to know if they are going to fit in my arcade-stick-housing.
