Does anyone know of an alternate solder point on a 2009 madcatz wired?  The pad ripped off on mine  :hissy:

On the 2009 MadCatz controller, does anyone know what the 10 silver points in the center are for? The first few are labeled S0, and S1. Has anyone traced that particular pcb? (Besides just knowing where the regular contacts are)

An alternate point for what? Which button/direction, etc.

I haven't personally seen a full map of all the alternate points, etc. I've been around the 'net on this one quite a bit, too.

Haruman,

I noticed in the pic of your hacked madcatz you offer that all your wires seem to be going below the controller, but the pcb diagrams don't indicate where those points are. Are all the buttons accessible from below? Do you have a diagram?

Thanks!

Haruman, in your thread about your hacking services, the pic of the madcatz controller has red wires going under the controller and none on the top of the face buttons. What points were you using? The diagram you posted doesn't list those points on the underside, only clicks, bumpers, and triggers...

I'm confused ???

Oh, that was an unfinished pic.  I just posted that one when I figured out how to hack the triggers on the new MadCatz pad.  The wires on the bottom are for RT & LT

Is there any way to remove the plastic mechanism for the trigger buttons without damaging them or having to solder off the potentiometers? Cause it looks like I would have to either break the plastic or solder off the potentiometer to remove them. Two things I want to avoid.

Also, what should I do to move the headset jack from the controller to one of the sides of the arcade stick housing?

Nope, you can eliminate their common ground, and just wire up your separate ground to each button.

There is a pcb that runs around the joystick.  You simply have to break the ground wire on it (in 4 places) and then wire directly to the switches.

all you need to do is connect the 4 seperate switch's ground's on the joystick to any one main ground wire on the PCB.

you could run all 4 switch's with their own seperate ground wire all running to the main ground or you can run 1 single wire to be used as a ground to connect to all 4 switch's ground to ground and then have it run to your main ground off the PCB

that one ground wire can connect to any other ground wire wether it is one connected to your buttons in the control panel or to a ground of the printed circuit board but it all has to connect ground wise

see how your buttons are wired and notice the switch is the same as your joystick?

now wire the joystick the same as your button switch's as they are the same exact thing.

1 signal 1 ground for each switch.

the signals need to be seperate but the grounds do not you can run everything with it's own seperate ground that would eventually run into one main ground "the hard way" or you could dasiy chain 1 ground to them all "the Easy Way" or you could do a little of both.

to make it short there schematic is wrong so here it is corrected  :laugh2:

nevermind I figured it out. I did buy a new wireless controller but however it was the late version, I was just being dumb and thought well the controller is new so it must be the latest hardware.

Anyone looked into using the PCBs out of one of the guitar controllers?  I took apart an extra Xplorer and it's got reasonably large traces and I think most of the inputs you'd need...

Can you snap a pic of that PCB?

I haven't looked into it at all, but I have a PCB from my original Rock Band drums lying around, and it would be an easy hack. I have a feeling the guitar would be just as easy to hack, but you are only going to get 5 play buttons out of it. (A,B,X,Y & RB)

Pretty sure the whammy and strum bar are two additional inputs, are they not?

And you've got the d-pad, start, select, and home.

The whammy and strum bars are what would be the right and left analog sticks, and I said play buttons.

There are plenty of games that you can play with only the 5 buttons, but why bother being limited? If funds are such that a cheap madcatz is out of reach, and you have the guitar wasting space, then I guess it is an option. I just personally don't see it as one worth bothering with.

Ah well, you're determined to be right so you win.  I think you'd get another input out of the tilt sensor, too.

It was just something I had contemplated as I've seen people throwing these controllers away, and hauled one out of the trash last week...

I'm not just determined to win. I am also right. You are guessing as to what is there, while I know exactly what is there.

Green = A
Red = B
Blue = X
Yellow = Y
Orange = RB

Whammy = right analog stick from center to right
Tilt = right analog stick pushing up
Strum Bar = d-pad up & down

5 way selector = various positions of the left trigger

Back, Start, Guide and D-Pad are all self explanatory.

On a rock band guitar the solo buttons are the same as the regular buttons with the addition of having the left stick click pressed as well.

If what it offers sounds sufficient for you to use as a hack for an arcade setup, then by all means go for it. I was simply stating its limitations.

[EDIT]
I notice that I stated in my other post that the strum bar was analog stick. That is incorrect, and what I have in this post is correct.

Oooops :)

those look very easy to work with

the second pcb pic could be bypassed completly by just using the wire's that are running to/from the 2nd pcb to the main one so that could be eliminated right off the get with ease but still have it's function through the wire's or their solder points on the main pcb.

So I'd like to make a wireless 360 Fight stick
I've never done this though

Can someone give me a list of all materials I need?  I think I'm going to make it out of a shoebox for my first run since I'm not so great with tools.

I have a 360 wireless controller so part 1 is done
Now what else do I need?

A stick, some buttons, some wire, some quick connects and some solder, but first...

Read up on the wealth of information already on the subject. The Wiki is probably a good place to start.

I'm looking at that Datel Pro to play Pacman CE on.

Do you think it will be suitable?

I have a Mad Katz padhack where the "right" direction has stopped responding.  :'( I saw this coming as I've read somewhere that these things tend to fail after a while. Is it possible to use the analog input just for one direction? In my mind it would be possible for it to go from off->on just like a digital input somehow by bypassing it's pot?

Edit: I successfully used one of the analog directions and now I have full functionality again, even though it feels like a somewhat dirty fix. It will have to do for now.
