Here's another great deal. This also isn't from amazon so I changed the name of the thread so it's not misleading. This tool is from sears. It's a Craftsman 10" bandsaw. The price is $99.99 and shipping is free if you don't feel like picking it up (the box is 77lbs). This isn't a top quality saw and shouldn't be treated or thought of as one, but it is a great saw for $100. I'm buying one and I know it won't be my last, but it'll fit my woodworking needs for now. That's a great price on a great budget tool.

I'm not sure if it comes with blades so here's a set to go with it. Like I said, this is by no means a resawing monster bandsaw, but it's easily one of the best bandsaws out there for $100. I know it easily spanks the delta shopmaster that's at lowes for $100...

Enjoy!

Oh man, if I could think of an immediate place to put that where it was usable, I'd be all over it.  That, and I'd need a use for it.   :)

I did. Sort of...
I ordered one set of 1/2" shank sets before I posted. 8)
I just meant to order another 1/2" set after the first set arrived. I went and ordered a 1/4" set for my bosch colt as well.

I noticed the Craftsman bandsaws seemed to have gotten a really nice update.  They have rollers guides top and bottom on all of them now, even this $100 one.  I wish I'd waited to get a 14" and got the Craftsman.  My Rigid has the metal blocks as guides (none on bottom).  For some reason I see the rollers as a really nice quality upgrade.  It'll cost me $100+ to add rollers to mine and that's not gonna happen.
Summing up, yeah, I think this is a sweet deal.  Even the 14" seems to be.

Chad,
Why do you need a place to put it or a need?  It can sit in the box for years and would make a nice mini table for the garage.  Until it's needed.  And it will be needed.
Next I'll be on fries, and that's when the big money starts rolling in.

I noticed the Craftsman bandsaws seemed to have gotten a really nice update.
Craftsman's newer bandsaws very closely resemble Rikon's line. Sears is notorious for having other tool manufacturers make tools for them (Bosch, Ryobi, Orion all make tools for craftsman), so it wouldn't surprise me at all if the craftsman was in fact just a rebranded Rikon. That's a good thing, because Rikon makes very good tools. All the people who have the 10" saw that I have read about like it a lot.

Chad,
Why do you need a place to put it or a need?  It can sit in the box for years and would make a nice mini table for the garage.  Until it's needed.  And it will be needed.
QFT. I have tools still in the boxes...
Why? They were on sale at a killer price and I couldn't resist...
Spend $100 now to save $60 later. Think about the long term...

Another decent deal at Amazon in case anybody missed it...

Kreg jigs (and screws) are 20% off right now.  A pretty good deal since its rare to find them on sale.  Use code PTA2OOFF at checkout to get the discount.

Thanks Drew. A lot of the time their %off prices are good, but also a lot of the time they so grossly set the MSRP so high that even at 60%+ off it's still around retail. I grab for those that drop way below retail. Here's a few examples; I got 2 Dewalt DW618PK kits for $149.99 shipped each. I also got a Porter Cable 7518 for $236 shipped last year. That was actually on sale very recently for $199 and has a Porter Cable $50 mail in rebate. Yet another tool I got for way below retail: Delta 50-760 for $204 shipped. The deals show up, you just have to show patience and know when to grab them.

Another thing that makes deals so nice are the discount codes like the PTA20OFF code mentioned above and the manufacturer rebates.

Hunt me up a BT3 for cheap.  I've got a nice rebate check that's causing a rash on my leg from me itching to spend it ;D

The BT3 is a great portable saw, but wouldn't you be happier with an induction motor contractor saw? ;)

For instance the Ridgid TS3650 is a great contractor saw for the money. If you can muster up a 10% off coupon it'll only be $494 before tax. Good price for a good saw. It's a well received saw and can handle dado sets and aftermarket accessories. Another highly regarded saw in the benchtop range is the Ridgid TS2400LS.

If you ever think you'll outgrow the BT3100, you probably will. You're getting a nice refund from the tax man, splurge on yourself. ;D

I certainly would, but we end up using one of those crappy little $100 "table saws" enough on the jobsite that something like the BT3 is perfect for my needs.  Until I'm retired, I'll get along just fine with it.

I was looking at the DeWalt and Ridgid models too, but the DeWalt isn't as "portable" and for whatever reason, I just don't like the Ridgid one.

The BT3 is about as "portable" as the DeWalt, but that's easily remedied, and there's just too many people out there http://www.bt3central.com/ that are willing to help with any odd jigs or uses that I can dream up to discount that as a "feature".

Another great deal here. This time it's a Starrett 12" Protractor. Drew has one of these and it helped him out a lot during the construction of his flight deck ;). At the price of $35 shipped it's a heck of a deal for a very useful shop tool. Not to mention the fact that starrett is THE company when it comes to measuring devices. They're hard to beat and usually very high priced. I think this normally goes for about $50+ at most places.

What makes the deal sweeter is that you can get a 9" starrett torpedo level free. On the protractor page scroll down until you see product promotions. It's the second one listed. Click on add both to your cart and during checkout the price of the level will be discounted.

Very tempting but I'll hold off as I spent $1200 on a pin last night... my router bit set came in, very pretty, nicely labeled with an organizing box and diagrams for what each bit does.  Awesome.

EDIT:  BTW, since I now have bits but no router, I need a router.  It's only practical.

A nice deal for those looking to get a 10" sliding compound miter saw.

Its a Hitachi dual bevel 10" slider... usually sells for $500+.  Now at $299 plus shipping (Shipping is $5 for a 60 pound box... go figure.)

Plus get a $50 gift certificate for a future purchase of Hitachi tools at Amazon (for spending $250+ on Hitachi or Dewalt tools)!

Sorry to hear that. Usually they're a lot better at what goes where. Then again I can understand, it probably would've cost more than $20 to get the set to the UK...
Some upfront notification as to where the sets could be shipped would be nice though.

A shame because it's a really nice set for $20.

Man, I SWEAR I spent that much on mine and bought it straight from the Rockler store by me.  There's NO EFFING WAY I woulda spent $50 on that, but a look at their online store shows it's selling for $60! :o

I'm wondering if the price went up on that for some reason or another, because while I love that thing like no other, I'd have never in my fricken LIFE spent that much - just woulda used a wingnut setup or a regular protractor!

I'm wondering if they happened to have it on sale when I bought it - that's just freaking me out for some reason :dizzy:

Enjoy!

Sears extended this sale until 3/24 so if you think you missed out on this bandsaw, now's your chance to grab one. It's an excellent saw for $100. Super quiet. It does come with one blade so no extras are necessary right away. Shipping is still free as well.

Did anyone else have problems getting there router bit set. First it took holbren a week to even ship the order, but I took that in stride since it only cost me 20 bucks. Well, I check my mail on saturday and there is a yellow sticky from the post office saying I can come and pick up my package on monday. Then I read "postage due $3.xx"(I don't remember the exact amount). Is this normal? I am not going to complain since I feel like I robbed them, but did anyone else have this happen?

It didn't happen to me (out of 3 sets...). Where are you from?

That is odd. They had a lot to ship out so something may have gotten mixed up. It's not the norm. Normally I always have great service from holbren.

I'm so tempted to get that bandsaw. Do I need one? No. Can I imagine any projects I want to do with it? No. But I want it. :)

There's also a craftsman drill press for the same price. Would this be a good buy? I can see myself getting some use out of this.

That's a pretty decent drill press for $100. It got a good review from a reliable source so I think it's a good deal. Sears usually has them set up so if you can go check one out at sears. I'd look into it if I didn't already have a beast of a drill press.

You'll never need to cut curves???
Go ahead. You know you want that bandsaw...

Seriously it's a killer deal and a great machine that has a lot of aftermarket features as standard, such as a poly v belt for better power transfer, a lower wheel brush to keep dust off of it, and roller guides. Very nice.

I am not going to complain since I feel like I robbed them, but did anyone else have this happen?

i haven't received mine yet...i ordered about ten days ago...i did get an email confirming shipment about three days ago...so it should be any day now i'd imagine...something tells me it will be postage due as well...

All the bit sets were shipped media mail. If it takes a while to arrive that's why. Normally things ship via 1st class or priority but since these were on closeout Brian (the owner) is just trying to not just give them away (although he's close...).

You're pure evil. >:D

Thanks for the opinion on the drill press. I'll probably end up getting both. I'm weak.

@ nitewalker
I am in southeastern pa.

I went to pick up my bits from the post office and the 3.61 charge is because holbren sent them media mail. My post office opened the package to make sure it was media content, and it wasn't so they charged me the balance for upgraded shipping. Ofcourse my post office is the one that won't let me send DVD's or video games media mail either and they open every package I ever tried to send media mail, natzis!!!! ::) I am still happy with the transaction, $23.61 for a 24 bit set isn't easy to beat. Just to let everyone know, the bits seem to be refurbed or just sloppily made but hell if I get one use out of them it will be worth it. Thanks again for posting this deal.

unrelated, but if anyone needs a wii you can get them for 210.00 plus tax at circuit city if they are available and if the store will take the 40.00 off coupon. If anyone needs a link to the coupon pm me and I will send it to you, I don't wanna hijack this thread.

The bits are definitely second rate, but at the per bit price I consider them disposable. They're not refurbs, just as you said, a bit sloppy. But they do cut well.

I see. Shady post offices!

That's an awesome price on a Wii. Not a hijack at all. Consoles are power tools too. Just a different kind. 8)

Glad to hear it worked out for you.

Does that mean they won't do a decent job or that they won't do a decent job very many times?

They won't do a decent job very many times. They'll do a fine job cutwise, just not as much as a whiteside.

NiteWalker, really....it's NOT the Post Office's "shady practices".  To be honest, it's Brian who has the "shady practices".  I don't know the definition you use, but router bits wouldn't seem to fit any reasonable-thinking human being's definition of "media".

The acceptance of the media mail shipping also entails agreeing to the possibility of having the package opened to verify its contents and being billed for the actual cost of shipping.  If the bit sets were to be refused and sent back to him, Brian would have to pay that amount (if there is a return address on them).

my post office is the one that won't let me send DVD's or video games media mail either and they open every package I ever tried to send media mail, natzis!!!! ::)

You need to find the law as it is written, walk in with it, then raise holy hell about being able to send DVD's.  They most CERTAINLY fit the description laid out about what actually would constitute media mail, and I've even walked in with the box open on my first media mail venture and asked the guy working the counter (not some shmoe temp either, an actual Post Office employee, in case anyone might be thinking that).

Guy laid it out for me - sending CD's, DVD's, books, and some other stuff I didn't pay much attention to are most definitely considered media mail, and your local post office either is being a purposeful ass to you because they don't think you can find the law (or don't want to explain it to you), or you simply don't fit under the guidelines for those things due to other problem-causing issues you haven't been clear on, like you're sending everything all at once, sending eleventy brazillion pounds of stuff, etc.

No matter what, your story seems to be missing some things in the translation, because at least one thing you mentioned wanting to ship is most definitely considered media mail.
