Did he actually violate any rules with the posting (aside from good taste)?

In a lot of areas now, Craigslist is polluted with people who abuse that function to get competitors off the webstie.

Think it was taken down due to false advertising. Saying that similar setups cost $3,000 is just an insult. Maybe the admin didn't want to touch it with an "ugly" stick, so he gladly took it down instead.

He didn't say that. He said MAME cabs sell for $3,000 on ebay. Thats totally different than what your saying.
One thing I'm seeing is a lot of people are pointing and laughing - but many of the people pointing and laughing don't have their own MAME cabs built yet.
