Did Hanano Joystick send me the wrong Joystick?

I haven't done a lot of NES stuff, but it just feels weird.  Not un responsive or unplayable, just...weird.  I need either the original pad or my good ol' Advantage.  You're not supposed to hear clicking when you play an NES game.  It just feels un-natural.  Probably the same way playing arcade games does using a game pad or keyboard....

I think the only way to exit a game is if your emulator (or maybe your front end?) lets you assign the exit key.  The HotRod is not programmable within itself, meaning it will always send "CNTL" when you hit that fire button, no matter what program is running.  But if you tell the emulator that "CNTL" means EXIT, then you're in business.
BobA:
The esc key is on the hotrod circuit board.   All you have to do is wire it up. This can be difficult as the pins are covered by the connector but have not wires connected.

The last row of pins are not all wired on the interface.
