Do I need to get the long shaft for the Ultrastik 360?

Perhaps using the circle restrictor along with the longer shaft will offset the greater throw and engagement distance? How will this compare to using the shorter shaft without the circle restrictor (short + no restrictor vs. long + restrictor)?

so far, i've only tried the U360 in 4-way mode. may be a while before i can give it a thorough workout in 8-way mode with robotron. judging by my experience with the square restrictor in 4-way mode, i expect that the short shaft AND the circle restrictor will be best for robotron.
btw, the U360 makes a fine 4-way, but if you're looking for a dedicated 4-way, the J-stik is very similar in feel and performance and is MUCH less expensive. (the U360 and J-stik share the same basic mechanism.) the J-stik is my new favorite 4-way.

No compare :D Impossible is to U360 without restrictor to play on normal 4/8-way games. Toooooooooo long throw, never mind short or long shaft.
Circle restrictor - excellent for some games. Now I use U360 with circle on Wonder Boy 3 - excellent.
