PROJECT AGENT X
« on: September 13, 2007, 10:36:19 am »
ThisOldGame.com is pleased to announce are Biggest and rarest project.
A Full art package for Atari's Agent X and Cloak & Dagger!
Special thanks to Roadrunner @ KLOV for bring this to light.
and to Scott Evans for providing the orginal Atari Art films for the screenprinting.
Only 25 original dedicated cabinets were mfg by Atari with the rest being conversions.
I will  also be post up up cnc router files and cab plans for this orginal cabinet.
There will also be art ran designed by Atari but never released -
the agent X marquee and an alt speaker overlay,
that was most likly changed for the Cloak & Dagger release.
I will be posting the entire production run with pics of the orginal art, pantone color matching, and the screenprinting process.
Anyone interrested in this art package should PM Roadrunner on KLOV for more info as this is a private, onetime limited run.

Rich,

I am very excited to see this project take shape.  I didn't know it was going to include router files and cabinet plans too, that is pretty phenomenal.

Make sure to document how the Pantone system of today works with the films color codes.  How that compared from then to today, I am really curious.

The Cabinet plans Im adding in to the mix. This should be the most complete project
I believe done to date. the only exception would be we're not re-mfg the pcbs-lol
As far as pantones go. I have no idea how Atari mixed and matched I can only assume it was done like many print shops I previously work which I will show.
Now days youd use expensive color spectromters to scan the color and have it produce a formula that could be mixed in screen inks. kinda like what the hardware store does for paints.
In this case Im kickin it ol skool, and will be sure to show.
color is one of my specialties.

Here are the digital composites Ive put together for the project.
Because we are using the orginal Atari film postives most of this art does not exist in a digital format. Ill post of pics of those along with the screens currently being prepared shortly.
So the some of the colors may not be as acurate here.
youll get to see first hand what seperates these printed pieces from inkjets
when the orginal spec Pantone colors are mixed and printed.
There were  2 new pieces created for this package that were not included with the orginal films. the cpo and kick plate art. They were either lost to time or lost in the pallets of orginal art from Atari.
A special Thanks to www.Rotheblog.com for great work vectorizing the kickplate.

Specifically Crystal Castles. The millipede cab similar but the speaker grill is different.
Atari only made 25 of these bad boys orginal dedicated and the rest were conversions.
The art work we are reprinting is fot the orginal deciated version or conversion of a Crytal Castles cab.
While seperating and prepping the films for production I discover a 3rd version of the SGO which we will be running and including in the art set.
these are the orginal design, dates and revisions drawn by ATARI.

I would so go for this, but now is the absolute worst time for me.  I just saw C&D for the first time in years.

I'm a little confused though. Are you offering up the art, router, and other digital files for free download and selling the printed art as a limited run or are you selling the entire thing as a package?

Any idea what kind of run numbers we're talking about here?

Let the production begin...
although we started on several peices a few months back heres the first piece getting screened with the orginal Atari films.
1st up is the first film postive used to burn the screen for the first color to print
-in this case Black the art measureses aprox. 18"x24" with a needed silk screen of 26"x36"
2- the screen exposed to the film in reverse since its a marquee.
3-1st color printed in reverse on a matt polycarbinate/lexan

for this marquee there are a total of 7 pieces of art that will require 7 screens to complete this marquee each color is screened allowed to dry then setup for the next color. on each of these films Atari has spec a Pantone Pms color # which is next up

Damn, that looks sweet.   :notworthy:  Nice job, guys.

I've got a working Crystal Castles cab that's been JAMMA-tized and painted over just sitting in storage, too.  It's awfully tempting, but I'm supposed to be in the process of shedding projects, not taking on new ones.  One of these would be awfully sweet, though...

Hey, SavannahLion, you're in Sacto, right?  Come up to redding and take that cab away from me.  Remove my temptation!  :laugh2:

Bump.

So Rich, what is the progress with this project, been almost two weeks since we have seen something new.  Are you onto having printed the larger stuff, like the sideart and kickplate?  Or did you buy a printer big enough to do large format?
