Nah we aren't getting old... the genre's are getting old.

The fps is dying on the vine just like the 2d fighter did back in the mid 90's.  Heck the 3d fighter is dying too. (I did NOT buy the latest MK game, that should tell you how bad it's getting.)  But getting back on topic, you'll see a re-occuring theme in the responses to this thread, namely fps are sucking.  There was a time when I couldn't get enough. I LOVED doom and I LOVED the early 3d fps like quake and unreal tournament.  But since then it's just been more of the same and unfortunately some consumers don't demand innovation like we do so they keep thowing 3 dozen fps's out there a week because joe frat boy or skippy the 14 year old boy is still buying them.

I agree that there is a ton of variety, but the bulk of the market is filled with shovelware atm.  You have to really look to find variety anymore.  That is of course, unless you own a wii or DS, or strangely enough, a ps2 (not 3).  :)

. . . as it always has been.  Also, Mortal Kombat has always sucked, starting with spelling combat with a K  :)

I just hit the Halo age over the past couple of months.  Maybe I haven't found the right games yet but most of them aren't gripping me.  Including Halo.

Nah, there was a golden age in the nes/snes days when the nintendo seal of quality meant something and the majority of games were good.  You must be from the atari generation, that was the system with the shovelware.

Just for the record mk still is the #2 fighting franchise of all time, second only to sf.  I mean sales records too.  Of course old coots don't appreciate a Kool thing when they see it.   ;D

Agreed. I never understood all the Halo hype.  Mind you it's a good fps which is rare as they are usually crap.  But you've gotta wonder, if people get so excited over a game that is merely ok then how far gone is the genre?
