--- Quote from: turbo6 on March 12, 2007, 07:52:15 am ---Accessing the ability to make some games "flip " in cocktail mode is done within the game's service screens and not just in the dipswitches accessed by pressing the "Tab" key. Also some "Original" Roms don't support "cocktail flipping" while one of their "clones" do... and vise versa... --- End quote --- Whoa. I'd never thought that there may be hidden cocktail modes inside a game's service screens. Any idea how many of those there are? Can you give an example? I assume that controls.dat is a tad more accurate with regards to this. Did you compile this list by hand? I'd like to compare it against one generated by my ROMLister tool and see how things match up. I'd be happy to give this list a good home on my site: http://www.waste.org/~winkles/ROMLister ...although I'd want to break it down into vertical and horizontal lists. I too went with a vertical cocktail machine (used a gutted Galaga machine). I've currently got 125 games on it that are verified to work, but I'm always curious if I've missed a couple somewhere-hence my software was written. -jeff! |

I can't remember (but there are several), its been a couple of years since I made that .ini file. As an example, the game Blast Off is one such game. I've included a pic of the service screen and what has to change (they are highlited in a red box). Some games only need the "Rank" changed and others need both "Rank" and "Type" changed. Generally these options are A-B-C sometimes D, I just played wth the different options and then started the game in 2 Player to see if the screen flipped for Player 2. In the pic this is the setting (Blast Off) for making it flip in cocktail mode. Sometimes the screen gets flipped like a mirror (reversed text, etc...) in some games but you just use some of the other settings like "Flip" screen or do the same kinda thing for the individual game using the mame settings... I hope this is understandable... :dunno Yes I spent hours going thru each game and compiled it by hand. I'm sure alot of the "parent roms" have the cocktail mode as well but I only used the US or World versions to be seen for my own cocktail machine. You can use the list I compiled any way you like. I hope if you add any that support cocktail that I either missed or have been fixed, you'll add it to the list and make it downloadable for all to use. That would be great if you broke it down between vertical and horizontal games but still include the full list as well. I have a horizontal cocktail so its nice to have all the games that support "cocktail". Well, good luck and enjoy... I know I tried to find such a list for cocktail with no luck... I hope this helps fellow cocktail owners save some time and headaches. |

I believe that these game service screens are the 'soft dipswitches' for games that don't have actual dipswitches on the PCB. I think that when this is the way it is, then dipswitches is not even an option in the TAB menu. (I wouldn't be surprised if there were exceptions...) Rick |

Pretty much what I stated in my first post in this thread. Alot of people would be looking only at the dipswitch options when hitting "Tab" where as if you look in the games service screens (softdip) you'll find others that cocktail flip as well. Not sure if the "Romlister" proggy would find these or not??? Just trying to bring these options to light for those with cocktail machines who did not know. :) |

I don't believe that softdips are found by RL, as I don't believe that they are in the xml. I just wanted to clarify that 'game service screens' was the same (or also known) as softdips. Rick |
