Here's the results of painting.  I went with two coats of oil base primer and three coats of acrylic latex.  I sanded inbetween coats, maybe too much.

The paint sanding makes even more of a mess than the prep work.

Also, even though I put plastic down, I still ended up getting paint all over the tile floor as well as two pairs of socks.

I found that a combination of scraping and "Goo Gone" take it right off.

I went with blue sides and tried to match the color to the blue T-molding I picked up from T-molding.com.  The center is all black to match the monitor bezel and coin box.

By the way... that's me hiding behind the primer... having a really bad hair day.  Could be time for a haircut.

Here it is with T-molding almost back together.  The blue T-molding really finishes off the side panels and makes it look like a solid piece of blue material.

Waiting on the new marquee and vinyl control panel from Mamemarquees.  I'll post more pics once they come in.

For now... I need to clean up this room and get the rest of the paint off the floor.

I'm also working on the wiring for the coin door and trackball lights.

Just got word from Scott at Mamemarquees that my marquee and CPO are in the mail.  I'm a bit nervous about screwing up my CPO.

Any words of wisdom?

Very nice build. Kudos for not cluttering up the control panel. That's the way I like it. Keep it simple. The monitor is well proportioned to the cabinet. Excellent job.

It's 9am. I'm calling it a nite.

Great progress.  Have you purchased your glass yet?  1/4" is a bit thick but will definitely hold up.  I'm using clear 3/16" tempered on my current project.  The tempering process adds only about $9 - 10 bucks, but for the 7X increase in strength its well worth it.  You never know when one of your guests may "accidental" slam the glass.  As for tinted glass, different people have different preferences.  I prefer clear.

Good luck with the paint job.

Thanks for the kind words guys.

Great job so far.  I really like the name you chose as well as the artwork.

I got the actual marquee and CP from Mamemarquees installed.  It looks great.  I've been waiting to post pics with the final art because I ran out of T-molding for the CP.  It came today but unfortunately they sent the wrong color.  I'm trying to exchange it for the right one now.

What are the buttons for on the front of the CP?
The buttons on the front of the CP are P1 and P2 coin buttons.  Originally these were going to be red but I decided to change them to black to hide them.  The coin door is functional but it probably won't get used very often.

I also added a single admin button on the side of the CP which I was originally planning on using a shift-modifier for the game buttons.  It's kind of confusing without labels, though, so I think this is just going to be my EXIT button.  PAUSE will be mapped to P1 Start + P2 Start.

Have you purchased your glass yet?

I had been saving this for last... maybe this weekend.  I've found that with the cabinet in its final position, glare is a bit of a problem during the day.  I'm wondering if tinting helps to reduce the glare.

Well, I received the correct molding from T-molding.com yesterday (thanks for the rush order guys) and finally got it installed and everything put back together.

So, time for some money shots... it's complete now except for the glass.  I made quite a few mistakes along the way, but I'm pretty proud of what I accomplished.  I started the build right after New Years so it took about 3 months start to finish.

I'm currently running MAME, Daphne, and StepMania.  I have some tweaking to do on the MaLa screens and such but the hardware's all in place now.

Hope you like the pics...

Close ups of the control panel and marquee.  The second one of the marquee I did with the flash off to show the backlit better.

All from Mamemarquees.  Scott did a great job.

Wow - it turned out great!  Congrats on building such a nice cabinet.  The artwork you chose looks really great and your CP is nice an clean - no frankenpanels here!  The marquee also looks great all lit up.

Thanks RT... we've been having fun with it.  It looks even better now with the glass on the front.  Maybe I'll add an updated pic this weekend.

My daughter's hooked on stepmania so that turned out to be a good option, but my 4 and 7 year old haven't quite developed a taste for the arcade games yet.  Maybe in a few years.

The real test will come this summer when we start having pool parties again.  I think it will see a lot more action from our adult friends and some of the older kids.

Meanwhile I keep tinkering with it.  The P3 in there is good enough for most games, but I'm itching to upgrade it.  I started looking into my next project... building a scratch PC!  I think I can swap out my mobo, processor, and ram for about $200.  I'm now sorry I bought an AGP video card for this machine tho, cos it looks like most of the new mobo's are PCIExpress.

One of these days I'll get around to updating my Mala skins too.

WOW! How did this escape my radar?  Your artwork is stunning.  That marquee looks like a commercial game and I really dig the simplicity of your CPO.

Also, good job on keeping the control panel uncluttered.

Thanks guys.  I'm really happy with how it turned out.

All the artwork originally came from localarcade.com and was tweaked in Photoshop.  It wouldn't have turned out nearly as well without all the constructive feedback I received on the Artwork board.

This thread shows the evolution of the artwork:
