Encoding video

I'm trying to make a screen saver (kindof). What I'm doing is running Galaga full screen on my comp and then doing a video screen capture. What I want is a video of the intro and demo mode of Galaga. Like a 5 or 6 min video.  I'm using Windows media encoder that you can get for free from their site.

My problem is the lag. I'm using a 1Ghz with 512 Mb of ram  and a 64MB video card. If I don't encode it as full screen it works just fine. When in full screen mode, It jitters and the sound gets messed up. I've changed all the setting trying to decrease the resolution so that it doesn't jitter and I almost have it. But it will never be there.

Basically I was wondering if someone that has a newer, "beefier" computer can give it a shot. I have the knowledge but I don't have the hardware. I can walk someone through how to set it up if anyone wants to give it a try.

hmm.. sounds like you are doing 2 cpu intensive things at a time (although you'd think galaga would be less so =P)

I believe that AdvanceMame has video recording built in... so you could use AdvanceMame to do  your video capture and then do your actual encoding aftewards (instead of doing both at the same time)

note: I haven't actually done that ->and I *may* be confused.... but it might actually work for you=P

_Iz-:
Older versions of mame had the record AVI capability. If you get stuck find out the last version that could do this and use that. (PS, you can get all versions of mame from mame.net)

Your problem is not your computer..  It's what your encoding the video with.

What format is the screen grab to begin with?  Also, what format do you want it to end up as (mpeg, mpeg2, mov(qt), avi(divx))?

Valence:
Windows media encoder does them in WMA. As far is the end process is concerened. I could use any format.
