I suppose its about time to contribute back to the community! After reading countless posts here and examining any pictures and websites I could fine, I decided to build my own machine. Due to size considerations, and because I already had an extra 19" LCD monitor, I decided to build something based on Knievel's excelling Woody and Arcade Mania design. (Knievel: If you read this, thanks for your great work and inspiration!)
I already had an old computer (and the LCD). I stuck to a black, orange, and silver theme typical of Harley Davidson logos. The control panel consists of Happ orange translucent buttons, 3 black Super joysticks, black buttons for admin functions, a 3" Happs translucent trackball (that looks pretty orange), and a Keywiz Max.
I designed the artwork in Photoshop (Thanks to Ad_Enuff for some tips with the art!), then took it and had a friend (with access to a photo plotter) print it on glossy photo paper. The marquee is backlit and sandwiched between two pieces of 1/8" plexi. If I were doing this again, I'd route a slot down each side for the marquee to slide into. To hold the marquee in place, I used aluminum angle iron which was cheap (~$5) and easy to cut and screw onto the cab.
The cabinet itself comes in at 24" wide and 20" deep. The control panel is 30" x 14", making the total depth with control panel installed about 26". I still have some work left to do (cutting out a piece for the front of the keyboard drawer), but I'm pretty much finished.
Remaining Worklist:
Wire LED lights
Cut and glue face for keyboard drawer
Cut and install monitor housing
Paint outer sides
Order and install T-molding
Diamond plate kickplate?
