lloyddull continues to post his dorkness even though Saint said it's OK for Snaake to sell here.  .  I might buy this from Snaake and post an image of me playing nothing but legal games so Lloydcom can sleep with it.

lloydcom:
Thanks for that.

For the other poster above:

Did you read your post before reading mine and submitting?

The law I was quoting was for everything copyrighted.  The scary thing is, what about copyrights we use for avatars, websites, arcade artwork?

I remember a new article way back when the internet was still being viewed by Mosaic and Windows 3.1, and this topic came up.  I think copyright works will be more enforced as software gets clever.  Software isn't clever yet.  Microsoft is working on authentication, and the DMCA might look at similar steps if it got someone powerful behind it to make the stand.  I'm sure there won't be enough jails or lawyers available to deal with the casework or monies involved.  Maybe they sue you via paypal?

Coming back to my comment above, which I hope it wasn't sarcastic or offensive, if you feel that way - then I apologise.

You mod a Ntsc video recorder to make it play PAL tapes.  I don't think there is any protection in the VCR to make this a point.  Except snowy screens and sound like the chipmunks.  If you had a Panasonic VCR - you could possibly change the voltage and the electronics to play back in PAL.  I have never heard this done - we just bought a TV to play the tapes on the VCR.  I'm US/UK citizen so this scenario applies to me too  I have collections in both format, especially laserdisc.  Now its moot as my UK VCR plays back my Ntsc tapes just fine.  Would be cheaper to buy the tape in the UK unless it was "I Spit on your Grave" which was banned in the UK until just recently.  Its on UMD now would you believe it?

"Mod chips has uses other than bypassing protection systems" - yes I agree with you, but your idea would not hold up in court, as you would have to buy another disc or ask the manufacturer to replace it via a small charge, because your child smashed it.  To think otherwise would be funny to any copyright lawyer.  Go ask one.

Because I agree with you doesn't make it right.  To mod an xbox takes some planning and equipment, and you cannot play backups with an un-modded xbox? - I wonder why?  Guess you will be extra special with that 2nd purchased disc.

Good idea with the above poster on making this a seperate topic.  Can a moderator put this in EE with the original Xbox 360 post too?  We have to give it reference, now since it is acceptable behaviour according to Saint.

I would like to make a motion that lloydcom be banned from this website.  Saint tried being nice to him and lloydcom is now taking shots at Saint.

Lloydcom, some people are intelligent enough to disagree without being disagreeable.  You don't seem to be one of these people.  I won't even try to reason with you because you are an unreasonable person.  You have failed to see anything except what you want to see, and of course have chosen only to find information which supports your limited and misguided view.

The "old guys" on this site are very welcoming to newcomers and if you actually want to build arcade controls, then many here will help you.  Otherwise, you would be making the first intelligent decision of your BYOAC career by choosing to STFU!

I've made a motion; I need a second.  Someone please second my motion and then everyone post your vote:  BAN or NO BAN for lloydcom.
Jabba:
Who the eff is Lloyd? Any chance he's related to Floyd? Oregano anyone?

And once I own a piece of hardware, I'll do what I want with it. Melt the motherboard or add a chip. Who the heck is the manufacturer to say what I can and can not do to my hardware. OK, they can void my warranty. Big deal!

SNAAKE, sounds like a great deal. Have no cashola now, but when I do, I'll come a knocking.

Mark, 2nd.

Why does it sound like you insist on criticizing saint for his decision?

I have a modded PS2.  For one reason, and one reason only.  I wanted to play games from other regions.  In particular, FFX International.  Now if I were to be a law abiding citizen, I would've had to pay ANOTHER couple hundred for a NTSC-J system, PLUS huge shipping, PLUS buy a power adapter just to plug the damn thing in my wall, to play a game.  Could you explain to me the reasoning behind region locks?  One that wasn't total ---That which is odiferous and causeth plants to grow--- in order to line the pockets of everyone at the top of the corporate ladder?  WHY ARE THERE REGION LOCKS?  Can ANYONE explain this to me?

Who wants to bet that if you called Microsoft customer support, and asked them if you could mod your system, that their answer would be somewhere along the lines of "That's not something we endorse.  However, we cannot stop you, and if you decide to pursue this course, you would void your warranty."  And that would be it.  I would guarantee that there would be no line about involving the police.

You're right, it doesn't.  But progress can be made through non-compliance.
Also, to retort the second half of that sentence, just because it's the law, doesn't make it right either.

One of  the newest Alabama laws:

--- Quote ---Issue of incestuous marriages not deemed illegitimate.

The issue of any incestuous marriage, before the same is annulled, shall not be deemed illegitimate.

--- End quote ---

So it's not against the law, but for goodness sake, please tell me you agree that it ain't right.

At some point, you have to think for yourself.
