"2, I think. How about you?"
"I have upper-left-corner-cloud-piece lives left. " :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

There was a patch to the arcade version that disallowed this.  I worked at an arcade and there was a period before and after the patch (where one disappointed customer wasn't all that happy about the patch.)

Ahh. I remember now, the turtles were replaced with mushroom dudes.

Weird, I swear I remember seeing it in the arcade before the NES hit the shelves.  And there's these from the Wikipedia article (bold emphais added by me):

--- Quote ---(Japanese: スーパーマリオブラザーズ) is a video game released by Nintendo in late 1985 for the Nintendo Entertainment System.
--- End quote ---

--- Quote ---As one of Nintendo's most popular games, Super Mario Bros. has been re-released and remade numerous times, ranging from an arcade version released soon before the original NES release, to its inclusion as an unlockable game in the GameCube game Animal Crossing.
--- End quote ---

--- Quote ---As with many older arcade games, it is not clear exactly when this game was released; while the arcade boards themselves are stamped "1985,"[6] the Killer List of Video Games and the MAME game listing list the game as having been released in 1986.[7][8]

Anybody else remember it that way?  At least in my neighborhood, that was the big deal about the NES:  It played Super Mario just like the arcade.  We were already pumping quarters into the thing when the NES appeared.

I was playing Vs. Super Mario Bros at the arcade way before I got my NES, in fact because I was spending so much money at the arcade I was happy to see it come with the NES...

I was very disappointed when I got to the level that is different on the NES version since that was the level I was stuck on on the arcade version. I pretty much beat the NES version on either the 2nd or 3rd try since I had so much practice already from the arcade version....

You can do it in the arcade...its a bit of a pain figuring out how..but once you get it, its easy to repeat.
