How to remove sticker/art from marquee plexi?
« on: March 29, 2003, 04:19:41 pm »
Ok, someone help me before a go crazy!

I have an original marquee plexi (Seicross) which has about 50% of the sticker on.  The other 50% was completely gone when I received this cab.

I've tried boiling water, hair dryer, soaking in water, goo-gone, etc. etc.  I can't get the damn sticker off, and it is driving me crazy.

Should I give up and buy/cut a new plexi?  or is there a trick to this?  The sticker is basically welded to the plexi.  They sure do a great job at making these things   grrrrrrrrr

Yes, I tried alcolhol among my first options.  It did nothing!  :-\

Any other ideas?

Wd-40 ?

Well, that's one thing I hadn't tried.   So I had a go at it, and it doesn't do a thing  :(

This stickker is baked on the plexi.  It's the original marquee, judging by the quality of the bond.

At this point, I' giving up.  I'll have Home Depot cut me a new plexi.

Can you peel up the sticker, or is it completely impossible to remove?  If you can peel it (even a little bit), you could remove the remaining adhesive with Goo-Gone or some other solvent.  I think what's happening is the sticker is acting as a barrier and preventing the solvent from attacking the adhesive.

The sticker cannot be peeled.  (the only way to peel it is to scrape it - but this proved to be extremely hard, and also scratched the plexi)

This is a very very thin sticker, and like I said, it is kind of baked onto the plexi.

Why are you trying to peel it? Is it so you can reuse the plexi? I think a new piece of plexi in that size would cost as much as anything you buy to remove the adhesive. Plus if that effort doesn't work you'll end up paying more just to try and get the sticker off. And then you're left with old, used, busted up plexi. :P Just go with a new piece.
