Personal satisfaction...

(+_+):
That's pretty funny that you guys mention this. My family and friends actually make fun of me since I'm the one who does all the work and all the programming to bring it together, yet their the ones who enjoy it. Little do they know, there's nothing more rewarding than me watching them (especially my kids) play. Truth be told, I do squeeze in a game of Robotron or Mutant Storm every now and then.

AlanS17:
I guess in that respect, I had ultimate satisfaction. The first machine I built was put into my fraternity's house. It was very popular for fighting games at parties, and it was great to just hang out in the middle of the day and throw down in Puzzle Fighter. It was used and abused, but boy did it get some play-time.

Of course, hardly anybody ever beat me when I stepped up to the machine.  ;)

The best feeling I had in the entire process was at the first party I had the thing working.  No one could believe that I built it and that they were able to play all those games from when we were kids.  My brothers-in-law were actually really good at several games and beat the high scores!  They are having me build another one for the family beach house!

skyblast:
Totally agree with you guys.  My twin brother had seen my mame project when it was partially completed but was completely caught off guard after it was finally done.

When he walked into the back room for the first time to check it out he just about choked on his clam chowder.  He just stood there with his spoon in his mouth, frozen with this WTF look on his face.  He could hardly speak.  After a moment of silence then dropped about 4 f-bombs.  It was priceless.

DaOld Man:
I agree. The feeling you get seeing others play makes all the many late hours, breathing MDF dust, cutting and cutting, then sanding and sanding makes it all worthwhile.

Right after I finished my first machine, we threw a halloween party.
We have a pool table, air hockey table, and then the arcade.
People were literally standing in line to play the arcade.
First thing people would ask me was if it has their favorite game from way back when.
Seeing the look on their faces when I said sure does, is something I will remember always.
