I really like drum an bass' control panel. That just looks like fun. Something I'd put a coin in at the arcade, for sure. Nice choice with the Pac Jr. motif, too. Not something you see a lot of.

Thanks mvolke1!! Much appreciated!  Although it is nothing compared to the works of art put together by Knieval and Timoe (and stoll!)... Man that clean wiring is impressive as hell! Mine is chaos underneath! ;-)

Don't get me wrong. These are all impressive and inspiring! I love the Superman, the flaming 4-player, and others. I also like the classy, wood control panel

The Pac Jr. one caught me eye. I can't wait to post mine, once it's done. Should be next week, once my computer comes in. It's a furniture-style, 2-player cocktail, soon to be 4-player.
I'm with stupid.

danny_galaga, your panel would qualify as 'panel-pr0n' if you posted a pic of the finished product top view.

Still a work in progress but coming together nicely. This shot is taken from what will be the right hand "head-to-head side".

My work in progress; getting close!! Half a yo-yo for my homemade hard drive spinner... Illuminated buttons and trackball with LEDs.

Not sure about the spinner placement, but I love the look of the yo-yo knob.  It fits perfectly.  The white-lit clear trackball's a nice touch too, since it looks like a power pellet.  Great layout and theme!

Figured I'd throw my two panels up as well.

The first Missile command version uses two 4/8 switchable ultimarc T-stick plus with balltops and a 3 inch happ trackball running an ultimarc interface. It connects to the cab with two large bolts and can be swapped out in 1 min or so.  I matched the missile command layout and added the T stick and extra buttons for the most classic games.

The second is my Robotron model using Groovygame gears interface and two 47-ways. The spinner is a GGG. I wanted to make a perfect controller for the standard classic button games such as asteroids/defender. I'm a huge tempest fan so the tempest knob and button placement pretty much match that control panel as well.  The graphics were printed by mame marquee (awesome job)

These are my favs.  REALLY like the idea/artwork on the MC one!

No awards to be won here, sorry.  Substance over style.

Two sided, rotating panel.

Both the panels and cab need mild paint touchup.  Waiting until the shifter is installed to do that, tho.

The main panel will eventually have an overlay.  Two UltiMarc Plus sticks and Happs buttons, along with a nice Beston Imperial 2 1/4" trac populate the main.  Nintendo/Happs buttons on the flip-up admin panel and the driving side.  Official Pole Position wheel/opto on steering side.  Happs shifter en route.

The edges appear off-white in the pics.  Dunno why - they're not.

Go here to get a rundown on the cab's building and see an AVI of the panel rotating:

Lots of cool stuff here.  I think it'd be even better if everyone posted their own thoughts about their CP as to what you'd do different if you started over...

Something you'd tweak, something you did that didn't work, etc.  Would be helpful to get more ideas as I plan mine.

Inspired by Supercade, my two deck design is 40 inches wide and 20 inches deep. Mounted on the 28 inch wide cabinet (still under construction), it doesn't seem all that big. The joystick/button layout was optimized for single player classics and Smash TV.

I like that dual deck, good way to get that all in one control panel.

one question though:

Is the trackball annoying being on the top deck or do you not notice any difference with it.

The reach to the track ball is about 12 inches. My kids and I play tested Marble Madness for hours and it worked great – the placement felt very natural.

Partybox Control Panel

This project was a blast.  It plays great.  18 inches wide by 8 inches deep.

4-8 way joystick
3 inch blue translucent trackball (3 LEDs mounted in holes drilled in housing)
3 action buttons (#1 & 2 are mouse buttons as well)
2 large admin buttons (Start-Enter & Stop-Esc)
3 small admin buttons (coin, P1, P2)
6 shifted (hidden) buttons (P, Y, N, 3, 4, Tab)
4 pinball buttons (flipper & nudge each side)

Almost ashamed to post it giving some of the amazing entries in this thread. Still very much a WIP but it's on the backburner for the mo. Should prolly spend less time on the arcade controls forum and more time on the arcade controls.... ;)

Happ gear all round with a 4 way and q-bert diagonal stick. I've a star wars controller and steering wheel ready to go but deciding how to fit them is a pain.

This is the control panel Tim has graciously been building for me.  I figured I would go ahead and post it since it is pretty much complete.  I did the artwork myself from vectors taken from localarcade.com, and all the other hard work was done by Timoe :)  The panel is around 17 inches deep, by 29 inches wide.

Well, with absolutely no fanfare, here's my recently finished cab.  (Thanks to everyone, especially Youki, for helping me get it running.

While on hiatus for a month I came across a free busted up Golden Axe cab on Craigslist.  I decided to see how little I could spend and still get something worth owning.  I ended up spending about 500 bucks (and many hours - I had no idea what I was doing) all in.  The hardware is as follows:

P4 dualcore 3.0Ghz, 1gig RAM, 19" CRT
2 Omnistick Prodigy 4/8 way joysticks
1 Electric Ice-T Trackball (powered by LEDWiz)
1 Apache push/pull spinner
P1:  6 buttons (with LEDs) plus 4 for Left Handers
P2:  6 buttons (with LEDs)
3 Trackball (mouse) buttons
8 additional buttons (P1 start, coin, etc.)
Running Mame 110 with the full romset including CHDs.
AtomicFE with the Arcades PnP module
Custom built control panel from Jack in New Jersey, who did an amazing job and should charge more.

It's really beat up, but completely solid.  After I tried and failed to fix the water damage I decided to let it stay the way I found it.  The controller is pristine, but in keeping with the spare look I didn't put any graphics under the bezel.  It plays amazingly well, sucks at least 10 people away all night when we have parties, and because my wife love Road Blasters she fully approves.

The next plan is to install a HiDef projector in the same room, so I can pipe the video output onto a huge wall and maybe mix it in with some other strange visuals through some kind of video DJ software.  I figure more people might get a kick out of being in the room when they're not playing...

Thoughts?

here's mine. plays a *lot* of different types of games. see the link in my signature for lots of details. the photo is a little bit out of date: the 8-ways are now sporting shorter red plastic wico handles instead of the taller metal ones in the picture.

Robonut,

I have filtered through this list a think that your layout would suit my needs.  I am on my second panel and have noted some minor problems with my design.  Yours seems to address these.
Any chance of you PMing me with the dimensions and layout measurements of your cutout sheet?

click the link in my signature. scroll to the "download" section at the bottom of the page. there are two pdfs there.

one is a single large page, which you can take to kinko's and print out on a large sheet of paper. you can also edit this, if you have access to adobe illustrator.

the other is "tiled" into a bunch of letter-sized pages. you can print this out on any printer and tape the pages together.

let me know how it works out for you.

also, if you or anyone else like my layout and want to have your panel made by slikstik, they've retained the cad file and can make it for you easily.

Here's a picture of my latest project, a Christmas gift for my daughter.

That's cute!! :) you do realise that you're going to walk in one day and find your daughter and her friends kickking the hell out of each other on the most gory and violent beat up games they can find don't you.. ROFLMAO  :laugh2:

Nice work dude!!

Best Regards,
Julian (Fozzy The Bear)
Most bottles and jars contain at least twenty-five percent recycled Pacman.

Bartop I built with a 16"wide x 7" deep CP. I used balltops in some supers from Tornado Terry. It's a multi-williams machine:

I never got around to finishing touches like artwork.
I can also still drop in the original Pole Position steering wheel control panel.
