Hey guys.

Pics of my first CP.
I do have plans on adding a spinner and after playing games on it for the past few weeks I desperately want a 4-way joystick.
There is plenty of room at the top-middle for these.

Here's the test panel I built, to test my wiring, plexi, paint and other skills...  Still have made little progress on cab

Need to cleanup the joystick wiring, but all in all a great temporary setup to play on with the boy.

Just finished my cab. Control panel pics below. Wiring admittedly not among the neatest.

Very nice industrial look.

Ive always wondered if the 1p/2p set could be brought together a bit and the trackball brought down a bit? Compresses the length a bit.

Is there a website that shows the control panel layouts of the original arcade machines? I want to get an idea of the standard layouts so I can recreate the most common in my cabinet build.

Take a look at Slagcoin for some common button layouts.

I love this.  Did you design the position/placement of the controls, or is there a template available somewhere?

I started with this:
http://www.arcadecab.com/images/CP_Pics/cp1.2-port.pdf

Then I customized it to my liking...

I used the sega1_l and sega2_l diagrams from this page for button layouts:

First post.

This control panel will be useful only from a "don't let this happen to you" standpoint. This is 36"x20" and entirely too crowded. I'm making a new one that's four feet wide, deeper, and more rounded. I want there to be "armrest room" so that playing games for several hours is as comfortable an experience as possible.

Also change the angle on your 3 & 4 player joysticks. See http://newwiki.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?title=FAQ#Orientation

Player 1 Button 1 is mapped to the top left button and the heel of your hand rests nicely between both rows of buttons (Picture may not show that due to the angle).  Additionally, because the mouse buttons are not assigned to any functions within the game that uses just the Player 1 buttons, it is not an issue.  Mouse Button 1 and 2 are not linked as player 1 Button 1 and 2.  They are independent so that they will light up by themselves when the game that uses them is launched.  There is a method to the madness.  ;) I think the artwork was about $80.00 from Brad (Lucien).  Very pleased with the way it turned out.  I loved Asteroids as a kid in the arcades, hence the theme.  Galaga was a close runner-up.  :D

It looks great! How quick was the turnaround with Luciano? I'm planning on going with him. I wish I had gone with LED buttons but it seems to expensive with 4 players and 8 buttons each.  Maybe some day I'll upgrade.

I had it inside of a week to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.  I was going to put plexi over it again, but I did not like the milky look it gave the art.  I chose the breathable laminate that he has and the colours are 99.9% accurate to my Adobe art work.

The LED lighted buttons was something I always wanted to do so the new build had to have them.  It is not that expensive if you go with solid LED lights.  The RGB's are where it becomes pricey.  I have RGB for both of my Start and Coin buttons.  The Trackball also has the RGB orbing light in it and it looks very nice.  I wish I had done it much sooner as it adds a whole level of awesomeness to the cabinet.  Not only does the LEDWiz/LEDBlinky Combo light your buttons, but they also speak and flash the unique controls for each game.  No more guess work for guests who play the system.

Here is the final form of the first project I started.

If I ever rebuild it I'm going to scale the speaker size down (they are awesomely loud, but didn't look quite how I was expecting) and swap the button LEDs out for dimmable RGB ones, as the white is almost overwhelmingly bright.

The Electric ICE 2™ Concave Lightable Horizontal Pushbutton from Groovy Gamegear (http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=73&products_id=238) do a great job of toning down overly bright LED lights.  They give the light a vibrant pastel look.

Yes, the EI2s are awesomely bright, yet not distracting.
