I always wondered what the inside of a 4p CP with all the buttons wired to RGB LED's would look like. Now I know. Yikes. That's gotta by a half mile of wire in there!

Fun stuff! I like the "burning money" artwork.

Good grief that's messy wiring! Hope you never have to trace an electrical problem.  :-\ Cool artwork though.

Finally... It is functional and ready to show here. The cp for my 1st build. 4 player 'Fusion' cab.

p1 & 2 MagicStick Switchable 4/8 ways
P3 & 4 Happ Competition 8 ways. Stripped shafts, colored dust shields made
Ultimarc Spinner
Happ 3" Trackball (Illuminated)

A view from the underside

The p1&2 Switchable joysticks have indicator leds. Blue led indicates the 8way mode. Leds are powered by a micro lever switch on the backside of the cp. The lever on the side of the joystick activates the microswitch lever. In one position (engaged) it lights one led, and when disengaged it lights the other.

Red indicates 4 way mode

Though not really the cp, this piece allows for plugging in various controls or accessories. Mounted on the cab under the cp.

WOWEE...that is a thing of beauty.  :notworthy: Just the wiring alone took some SERIOUS patience.

Man, will my cab EVER be finished?

Considering it has 7 Wires going to each Button, with over 40 Buttons, and 12 to each Joystick, 7 to trackball,  5 to spinner and a 14 to Yoke...

Thats over 354 Wires and Connections.....  Within a 48 inch by 24 inch space....  That wiring Job is hella Clean... lol

Ill take more pics of the inside this week end, need to change out 1 LED that went bad.

Very nice!

Why didn't player 3 get their own button color?

Nevermind, it's purple. Hard to tell in the picture.

Yeah its made so that when you play Turtles, the button color corresponds to the character (had to shuffle em around cause it used to be P1, 2, 3, 4 left-to-right and now its P3, 1, 2, 4)

My control panel made from scratch for my Neo Geo MVS conversion.
The cabinet was a Taito Jungle Hunt, that had been converted to a Universal Mr.Do.
I'm a CNC programmer / setup person by trade so I made this CP on the CNC mills at work.
The overlay was done by the patient people at arcadeoverlays.com
Parts used are all Happ Competition.

Got my control panel put together finally.  Just a panel, it's my first.  Got a lot of ideas and help from this forum / wiki and some from the Slagcoin site.  The background Marvel poster idea I got from someone here, but I forget who.  I hope they don't mind.

Ultimarc U360 joystick and spinner.  Trackball is from Xarcade.  The buttons are 24mm Seimitsu's.

Still not totally complete.  The bottom cover needs to be stained and I need to add a plug to the hole for the cords.  Also having some problems with windows not recognizing the trackball when I plug it in sometimes, but I'll work that out.

Nicely done! I like how you undermounted the stick and trackball, and recessed the side buttons.
Slick.

You may be having probs with the trackball because of an underpowered USB hub (i'm guessing you've got a hub in there?)

I had similar probs with my trackballs and U360's till I got a hub with a decent power supply.

Thank you.  I had a couple of false starts before I settled on this design.  The recessed side buttons I got from the Slagcoin site and they are nice.  I'm going to have to set up some pinball sims just to use them more.  ;D  The stick and trackball mounting I got from here.  With the plexi top and poster background it came out pretty nice, but I can still see all the flaws.  ;)

I have the U360 run direct out the the computer's USB.  The Spinner and the Trackball are on a hub and run out on one cord to the computer.  I knew the U360 requires either a direct USB connection or a powered hub (probably from one of your posts).  But the Xarcade Trackball just seems to be hit or miss when I plug the hub in.  Sometimes it works, sometimes not.  It seems to work 100% when I do a shut down and cold boot up.  Annoying since I'd like to be able to just plug in and play.

Adding in my resources here for archival purposes.

Midway cocktail (formerly a galaga table), metal CPs.

3 buttons each, U360 sticks, and look like this:
http://www.waste.org/~winkles/winterMAME/pix/winterMALA.jpg

here's the templates to send to arcadeDepot for drilling:
http://www.waste.org/~winkles/winterMAME/pix/winterMAMEP1.jpg
http://www.waste.org/~winkles/winterMAME/pix/winterMAMEP2.jpg

and here's the overlay artwork that I ended up using, printed by mameMarquees
http://www.waste.org/~winkles/winterMAME/pix/winterMAME_mergedCPO.tif

This was all done about 2 years ago, things may have changed since then.

This is my first control panel that I built around 4 years ago.
It's a bit dusty because I am currently rebuilding it in another cabinet.

I've realized the things I want better and I am now building a simpler CP.

This is the first portion of a cabinet project I've been mulling around since downloading a very early version of MacMAME back in 1997 or so.  It got put off while I had a life (many of the parts were purchased several years ago, just before I got engaged and then married), but this summer I finally got motivated enough to build the control panel, and completed that work this weekend.  It passed the niece and nephew test with flying colors.   ;D

Nobody is ever going to mistake me for a carpenter, so I kept it simple--and in fact got a buddy with a serious Tim Taylor complex to cut out and drill the basic parts after I completely buffooned a first attempt.  I did the design, routing, painting, lamination, installation and all the electronics work myself.

I'll save the in-work pics for the (eventual) cabinet project announcement.  For now, here's the panel and its parts list:

- 3/4" MDF construction (I'd have rather used 5/8", but couldn't find any locally)
- 1/16" black HDPE material laminated on control panel and front face (Grainger Industrial Supply)
- Happ Ultimate Competition Joysticks (2) (upgraded in 2012)
- Happ pushbuttons (purchased, with above sticks, nearly 10 years ago)
- Convex LED Player select and Coin buttons (Paradise Arcade Shop, added in 2012)
- Original Tron joystick mechanism (eBay)
- Reproduction Tron handgrip and accessories (GroovyGameGear)
- Happ trackball (old design, eBay)
- Happ trackball mounting plate (Game Cabinets Inc)
- hacked ball mouse (eBay--amazing how difficult these are to find these days)
- "Classic Arcade Joystick" set to 4-way restrictor (JammaBoards.com)
- Lighted ball joystick set to 4-way restrictor (Paradise Arcade Shop, added in 2012)
- I-Pac4 keyboard emulator (UltiMarc)
- SpinTrak spinner (UltiMarc)
- Generic USB hub (I didn't know it lit up until I plugged it in) and USB LED (not pictured, illuminates trackball)
- DSUB9 cables (not pictured) for attaching Atari and Colecovision joysticks, wired to open I-Pac terminals (removed, never worked properly)
- Black 3/4" T-molding
- Flat black paint
- Recessed handgrips (allelectronics.com)

As pictured here, it's running through an Intel Mac Mini running MacMAME .103, connected to a 50" Panasonic plasma TV.  I'll mate this with a more traditional cabinet, Hackintosh CPU and 20" 4:3 LCD monitor once the cabinet is constructed.  For now, I'm taking a break and playing some games!

UPDATE:  This panel has since been added to The Cab With No Name: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=111782.msg1194447

Here is mine.. I completed it today. It's not 100% yet as I have some tweaking to do...

Before anyone comments about the mis-match colors of the t-molding and vinyl I agree... The vinyl is more purple than it looked in the pic when I ordered... The marquee matches perfect with the t-molding so I'm not sure what happened... I got it from the game on grafix bargin bin so it may have been a bad print or something.. I saved some money on the order.. I'll replace it someday... Actually after looking at the pics the colors are not to off.. Maybe the flash from the camera evened it out or something...

Anyway for a first attempt at a build how did I do?

Thanks,
Mike

No pics of that yet... These pics were just with the buttons in place..  They are not wired or secured as of yet.. I still have to put the hinges on the box and panel so hopefully tonight...
Thanks,
Mike

I think it looks really good and have no problems with the colors.
