Well I have looked at this topic long enough.  I still have to mount my panel to the arcade cab.  I also have to get some black stranded wire since I bought the solid core and didn't realize I got the wrong stuff at Radio Shack.

Anyways here it is.  I have 2 Happ Supers, 20 Year Reunion Stick modified by Torando Terry with the taller shaft for 4-way play.  Tornado Spinner and Happ 3inch Trackball.  Both spinner and trackball are USB for easy plug and play.

The panel itself is stained in Minwax Polyshades Honey Pine color.  I sanded it 3 times staining each time.  It is really smooth.  No plexi cover on top.  This is actually the smoothest sanding I have ever done.  Also my best staining.  I kind of suck at doing that stuff, but this project has made me better.

The dimensions are the same as in the Project Arcade book.  They are the same give or take an 1/8 of an inch.  So do you like the size of my control panel?  It may be harder for a short person to reach my 4-way.  My wife will definately have to sit on the bar stool to play Pac-Man, but I am a tall guy so it is all good.  I wish I had the actual dimensions for you, but I am at work.  If you still need them let me know.

Here is mine...it almost an exact duplicate of the SlikStik Classic.  All its missing is the spinner and the dedicated 4-Way.

This panel was built for a cabinet I built for my daughters' school raffle.  I normally would just buy the SlikStik, but I built this one to save money. It is the first time I had to build one.

You can see the cabinet (and download the plans) at my website..

Well, dimensionally it is identical.  It measured my SlikStik Classic for this project.  I normally would just buy it, but I needed to save money.  I also wanted to build one to see how hard it would be.  It really wasn't that bad.  Here is a shot of the internal wiring...

Beta testing the new CP ... BWHAHAHAHAHA ... it's finally working right.

This is running on my new PC ... I think I have a USB error in the old PC I was going to use on the cab, but it looks like the CP functions are all fine here.

I should probably keep beta testing some more games, just to be sure there aren't any errors...  ;)

And for the record .. the first 3 games to get played on the CP: R-Type, Galaga, and Primal Rage.

Still need to investigate that USB prob. ... cause .. I've got a miniPac, a TB and a spinner that's going to need to plug in there.

I never noticed it before cause the old keyboard is PS/2.

This is my first ever attempt to build an arcade stick after only getting into the whole MAME thing about 6 months ago.  Unfortunately as I do not have space for a full size cabinet I have made a desktop stick.

The top panel is made from 4mm thick steel, the buttons and stick are Sanwa. The buttons have been custom painted a metallic blue and red (probably a step too far, but I do love to mess about with things!

Base box is just MDF that I have veneered... unfortunately it chipped off at the back corners when I was trimming it off, so it isn't as neat as i'd have liked.

It has taken me a long time and many parts messed up to make this... but time hopefully well spent!   :)

My first message on this board, although I've been reading for years and gathering help from all your work...thanks for the inspiration.

Here's mine...with a Defender theme - although I have no Defender button placements - I played mostly Atari 2600 which was way simpler...

Three Ms Pacman Reunions (a mistake I my part, maybe, thinking they had a different feel than the Happs Super 8-ways) I converted the base of two with a round 8-way plate.

Happs Blue Glow Trackball - still gotta wire the 'glow' up, but I'm afraid I'll burn out my power supply with the coin door lights already sucking out juice...

Turbo Twist Spinner- Nice!

Two Act Labs Arcade Guns - I drilled out two buttons so wiring can enter smoothly into the cabinet...the holsters are Home Depot "U" bolts that need to be painted black but I'm afraid they are too smooth and end up looking like crap.

Special thanks to Kneivel (spelling?) Wow!

Using two GPWIZ49's for all the buttons and joysticks.  Powering the trackball with an optiwiz.  The seven buttons per player, trackball, and left and mouse buttons are electric ice RGB buttons powered by two ledwiz's.

Just your average 4 player control panel.
My ultimate goal was to have as many controls on the panel as I could....
as long as it was 'comfortable' to use.
I didnt want any awkward 4-way sticks or spinners that you have to 'reach' for.

I made sure to have the trackball centered, with the 3 buttons to the left in a comfortable position, so
you can rest your left hand on the panel without any other control interfering.

I wanted to add 2nd joysticks for player 1 & player 2 for smash TV (I luv that game.  Once again, they
had to be a 'comfortable' feel.  I didnt want to have to 'mooch' off of player 3 or 4's joysticks.)

Threw together a panel last year to test some controls (and do some desktop mame) until I get all the stuff together for a cab.  Used a couple of boards from an old shelf unit - 5/8 laminated mdf.

Encoder is a GPWiz49, joy on left is a 49-way, joy on right is a Wico 8-way Leaf.

6 button layout blatantly ripped off from Knievel's projects.
7th button- lower left- for easy access with thumb(s).
Artwork selected for simple red/blue (like bottom front of ArtMAME's CP, other projects, multi-Williams, etc).  Not really a Deadhead, but this red/blue image was handy at the time.

Recently added:   Ponyboy leaf switch to main action button.
              fl0yd's rotary switch.
              Couple of translucent buttons.

here is my new panel.  it is still pretty much a transplanted x-arcade.  i removed the spinner and trackball since i never used them.  this is my first panel with plexiglass on top...i wish i would have done this earlier.  i wanted a very plain look, so i painted the back of the plexiglass black for a nice clean finish.  my woodworking skills leave alot to be desired, but the panel feels and plays great....now to work on the bezel....

I've just built this board, using IL buttons and an Ultrastik360 from Ultimarc. It's got a six-button streetfighter layout and a four-button neo-geo layout.  I am also going to add pinball buttons.

For the board, I used a shoebox, womens size 39 (european size). The button layout was done by placing my fingers on the box, and then marking the most convenient spots. But the paint finish on the box does not seem very durable, and now starts to look a bit dull.
