Aurich:
There was a nice Galaga build by whoever did that slick modern Centipede cab, blanking on the name at the moment, but he stopped his project log mid-way through.

My Galaga style cab is going to have some modern touches, mostly in that it's a little taller (1") and deeper (2") to accommodate a larger monitor and the marquee is about 1/3 shorter. You can see why I'm doing this if you play the 25th anniversary Galaga/Ms. Pac-Man with the 25" monitor and see how the viewing angles are not so hot. It's easy to stand in such a way that you can't see the top of the screen for instance. If anyone is going to do something larger than the original 19" monitor you should think about doing something similar. I've got a file where I worked out the various viewing angles if you anyone needs to see what I'm talking about.

Thanks for the tip.
I made the plinth on the Kong cabinet 2" taller than the original because it was just down too low.
I also made it a tad wider too because of the way the sheets of MDF are sold.
The 26" tube I put in there is a perfect fit at a 45 degree viewing angle.

I would be interested to see your file.

Not sure if I am going to put big screen but still would like to take a look.

It appears that I didn't save the version I thought I did, so I mocked it up again. Not sure if you have Illustrator, so here's a JPEG. Let me know if you want me to e-mail you a vector version, PDF or .AI.

The monitor is roughly placed, but to scale and is sized for a 27". The red and green lines are sight-lines for both the standard 9" tall Midway marquee, and my chopped down 6" version. You can see how radically that affect how you can view the top portion of the screen without hunching way down. That's a 6' figure, lowered slightly to factor in looking down and leaning a little.

Thanks for that.
I can see what you mean. Having a big screen lying down like that will cause a few probs and a sore back and neck.

I think I will stick to the 20" and keep the marquee the original size.
I might angle the monitor shelf up a little bit to help with viewing, maybe an inch or 2, but can't say until I have it built 'cause I haven't seen an original........yet.

I do have another 26" here but will save that for another Kong cab as the tube is at a 45degree angle.

Thanks again.
