Thinking of building a multi-williams bartop

I played a real defender the other day... wow! What a difference the real controls make. I'm debating on whether or not I want to build a multi-williams cabinet and perhaps use Mame. But my first questions really involve the controls. Playing Defender/Stargate with a Street Fighter layout isn't anywhere near the same experience.

Does anyone have thoughts on how the ultimarc360's would work with controls? Specifically Robotron.

I'm thinking of building a bartop. I remember seeing an example in Project Announcements, but I don't see it anymore. Anyone remember the name of the cabinet?

Thats it for now. I don't know that I have time to build another cabinet... I'm just looking at all my options.

Kremmit:

Gonna be tricky to get an accurate Defender layout and two sticks for Robotron onto a bartop cp.  Probably ought to design the cp first, and then design the rest of the cab around that.

Thats a pretty good point. I looked at the artwork at localarcade and it was something like 26 or 28 inches wide.

It might be a big fat bartop.... I really only have room for the machines I've built and for me to put another machine in, I need to take one out. And I don't have one I want to part with... I suppose thats a common problem.

Grasshopper:

If I ever have the time and space to build a full size machine it will probably be a Multi-Williams. I really dig the artwork (both designs) and all the Williams games rock.

However, I'm not sure you'd be happy with a bartop. Defender, Stargate and Robotron are all very physical games. To really recreate the arcade experience you have to be pushing against something sturdy when you move the joysticks.

I haven't tried the 360s but if their feel is anything like the standard Sanwas then I'd say they're probably too soft for the Williams games. Have you considered using Suzo Inductives?

That is mine : http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=55284.0

Its a very cool machine and attracts a lot of attention with the colourful artwork.
Was a real simple build.

If I can help, just ask.
