Translucent Happ Blue Trackball too bright?

I am not using an led just the standard 12v lamp form Happ.

From what I've seen here... It looks like using an LED will actually make the trackball brighter which is what I don't want. I think I will try underpowering via the 5v and see how I like that. Personally I like the way the ball looks not lit. I think with using the 5v it would look not lit in daylight, but when dark it would give a very mild glow.

use a higher voltage bulb or like you say hook up the +5 to the bulb instead of the 12-if that bulb is really bright its possible happ put a +6v bulb in there(i've seen it done before) by accident

If the 5 Volt is too dim, you can also feed it with 7 volts by connecting it between the 12V and 5V (12-5=7) volts.
